I think games certificates should GO. It's doing nothing. Everyone knows that 10 year olds play COD. I played Duke Nukem 3D when I was 4, and I turned out fine! Other people played games such as GTA or Medal Of honour at a young age, so what's the point of these ratings? The only thing it does is gives fanboys ammunition to call certain consoles "for kiddies" or "far too easy and not grown up"

I'm not so sure about that one...

What do you mean? You don't believe I turned out fine, or that you don't believe I played Duke Nukem when I was 3?

At any rate, here's an artists impressionism of me. So you know I'm fine

I didn't though about the second option, but yeah, both option fit you well.

Yeah yeah, same could be said about you my friend

I didn't play DN as a kid. When I I was a kid, I played the types of Ageo of Empires, Commandos Beyond the Call of Duty (I played the ultra hardcore, harder and shorter version first), Age of Mithologies and Desperados. Yeah, you can tell I am/was a strategy fanboy.

And you reckon I'm bad eh?

Of course, killing entire armies is much better than killing one by one.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Maybe  they shouldn't have age ratings just content warnings telling people how violent the game is, how sexual it is and how much and how severe the swearing if any the game has. Then from this information parents should use their own judgement on whether their children should play it.

Here in Europe, on the back of the game box it shows the reasons why the game received it's age rating (violence, swearing, drugs, gambling, etc).  For example Monster Hunter 3 is rated 16 and has a fist next to it indicating that violence is what put it in the 16 bracket.  Maybe other countries could introduce such a system.

Personally, the solo game I choose to play is not really related to violence/blood or difficulty. Its more about getting a mature storyline and experience. Mario gameplay is great, but the story is far from being immersive, let alone interesting.

Then you might as well watch more movies, TV shows, or read more books. Okay, the really good ones aren't that common, but you'll get a lot more of those than out of a typical story heavy game. Most game developers are simply not practiced or skilled in storytelling or writing (some exceptions though). Plus those aren't really mature stories for the most part, but that's for another thread.

That's an honest recommendation.

I already do. Still, its not going to replace video-games. I like playing games that have an involving storyline (RPGs, some action game) a lot. Its just that, unless im playing couch multiplayer game, gameplay by itself isnt enough for me.

He's not testing you. The story inSuper Mario Bros. 3 is very touching. Is it real? Or a stage? What's with all the suits? Genocide, flying and Japanese mythology is included in it all

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The story was quite good 16 years ago... you know, when I was 10 years old.

LOL, at least one person did understand my point.

Putting a stop on ratings so people can't call Nintendo games kiddy seems like a childish solution.  Even if most people disregard them they are still there for those parents who do care(minority or not).  You can ask Nintendo to make more Mature rated games but don't be surprised when they don't come as that kiddy image definitely helps the console.

Parents like the idea that there is no realistic violence, cursing and gore on Nintendo's system even if it isn't entirely true.

They can't have a reccomended age limit on skill because that's discriminatory.

Burnout Revenge is rated 3 as well!
