Forums - Gaming - Nintendo will have an advantage over 720/PS4!

This is all based on the idea that PS4 and 720 will release similtaneously. personally i think microsoft and sony are going to keep slugging it out with their current consoles, and nintendos Wii 2 will release a lot sooner.

but to compete with those console it will likely be less expensive and thus not even in the same power threshold as those consoles. nintendos next console imo, will have no advantage, because the PS3 and 360 will still compete with the Wii 2 and will be more powerful.

why would sony or microsoft release new consoles when their current consoles are being beaten by something a lot less powerful, its not good buisness sense to release more expensive, powerful hardware when the mass consumer clearly dosent want that.

I don't see why MS and Sony would be forced to release new generation consoles, as launching late in the gen doesn't always mean failure. Nintendo launched the Wii in November 2006, and it has handily crushed the Xbox (launched November 2001) and its own GameCube (September 2001). It's even tracking above the mighty PS2 (March 2000).

lol what? are you drunk again?

you either do not understand wtf you are talking about or are you considering the WIi to be part of the GCN, XBOX and PS2 generation?

i don't think you understand badgenome.. ;)

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Nintendo already learned that is not wise to lauch the most powerfull console (N64), so in that sense i think that the Wii 2 will be equal or little better then X360/PS3, with less expensive game development, less console/games price tag and with some suprises (like the D-pad on NES, shoulder buttons on SNES, analog stick and rumble pack on N64, the sensitive shoulder buttons on gamecube and the wii remote, nunchuck, balance board on Wii). And this suprises are what is going to lead people to buy Wii 2. It's a fact that in terms of power people choose a Playstation or Xbox, and if Nintendo cant battle in that way, they have to do something new in terms of gameplay that none of the competition have it (like the wii remote).

Now about that new kind of gameplay i have to say that in my opinion the vitality sensor is the prime candidate. I think Nintendo is not going to launch the vitality sensor on wii, and it's going to better it and put it on the new wii remote 2 (without that thing on the finger like that sensors of cycling bikes that exist's today on gym's).

About the price i expect the PS4/X360 tag along about 500 dollars/euros and the Wii 2 about 300 dollars (the most expensive  Nintendo console so far was the NES, on today standards when it launched the price was about 300 dollars, so i expect something like that).

that is why i said they would be smart to release consoles that are just a bit more powerful than the current HD consoles. and no Nintendo will not put out a console that is weaker than the current HD systems. it will be more powerful but not by much as that will harm them and third parties who are seeking cheeper ways to develop games if the other two chose to make their nextgen systems too powerful.

now if they do not release new consoles they might risk losing gamers too Nintendos new machine that will have something new that will attract them.

they can do what Nintendo did this gen next gen and they will be profitable by doing so

The real reason why Nintendo's got the competitive advantage right now is money.

Nintendo is in an extremely healthy financial situation while Sony and Microsoft lost billions on their consoles. That means:

a) Nintendo can launch a new console whenever they want (from a financial standpoint that is) while Sony and Microsoft have to regain some of the losses they've made with their consoles. Both are big companies with lots of profits in other divisions but neither investors nor managers will like the idea of a product seeing a successor just when it started making some money. Going by a typical product life cycle PS4 and Xbox3 wouldn't make sense in the next one or two years. Also Move and Kinect just launched. Killing them prematurely would screw customers over.

b) Unlike this generation Sony (and probably Microsoft too) should hardly be able to sell their next generation consoles at huge losses. Try tell your investors "we've just lost billions with our product. Now let's do the same again with its successor!" It would be insanely stupid for them to do so. Consequently Nintendo's next console won't lack behind much from a technological standpoint.

c) Nintendo can greatly expand their R&D budget to create more franchises and release games at a faster pace. Considering Nintendo's ability to pump out 10 million sellers this is a huge advantage over Sony and Microsoft. The 3DS line-up already has 3 (or 4 if Brain Age is real) potential 10 million sellers listed and that's only for 2011. The competitive advantage of such a software line-up is clearly there.

Just like wii will steal all the 3rd party support, like people were saying in 2007 or something. :)

how am I not understanding this? What do comparisons to  last gen consoles got to do with Wii at all? If anything it clearly shows PS2 launching so early is what helped it win in the first place. The war was well over before the other two launched.
