From what I've seen of the political figures on the compass, most  politicans tend to be top-right, especially Americans:

In Britain's case, perhaps there are just as many Top Left, though both of our main parties and the largest minor parties (excluding the SNP and Lib Dems) are top right:

The EU is all right, and mostly top:

And a range of international political figures here:

So, my question is this:

Why does this site have such an enormous bias towards socialism and liberalism? It's not bad; I'm just interested. Perhaps a lower average wage? Higher levels of education? What makes somebody more left-wing and liberal?

Very simple:

Age.

The site is certainly skewed with younger people. That has an effect on ideological views, which tend to make a person more radical, and out of step with current society. As one ages, they become more pragmatic, and shift to more conservative views.

SamuelRSmith and Rath would be examples of it. Sam went from being lower-left quadrant to lower-right and Rath used to be the most extreme lower-left person of anyone on VGC...He's still close to that area, but he's shifted about 2pts in favor of conservatism.

I've done this same test at a gun owners website (ar15.com). You'd be surprised what they all scored

Well, that and Videogames are an inherently left wing media... like Comic Books.

Eh. I think that one depends. The ones I've worked with would surprise you.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I keep moving in  a small circle....

Former something....

You don't say, guess it's just the public ones then.

Not quite.

Here is an open letter from John Carmack concerning government involvement in private industries. One of the best discussions on government by anyone, much less the co-founder of ID Software:

http://media.armadilloaerospace.com/misc/government.htm

Maybe I'm just the kind of video game guy that attracts discussion with people of like views. Near the end of my tenure at IA, I discussed Friedman, Rand and Sowell with a co-worker almost every day.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Well, since we now have a Politics Forum, I thought I would resurrect this. Do take the test if you haven't already.

I feel that I'm perhaps more libertarian on this chart than what I really am (I think I should be near the left-righ axis). Mr Khan xplained pretty well why that may be in the previous page.

This is where I'd placed on the cbc.ca compass:

Such a hippie :P
