GT5 being undertracked here was a no-brainer anyway.

Maybe you should have read the whole article before discredited VG numbers

More than 2.5 million copies have reportedly been sold in the first week (Sony won't confirm or deny)

Discredit VG numbers? It's almost 100% sure that GT5 is being undertracked, since it sells very well in areas that are hard to track.

And I did read the article. What's your point with that sentence? There's a big difference between 2M and 2.5M.

it will sell about 5.2 million but Jan 2011, and will stay strong through 2011. 10mil is possible over about 2 years

Raw ohhhh! here we go adjustments inbound brace your selves for impact. xD

The latest version of the world's most successful car racing game launched last week and will earn Sony an estimated $1 billion in sales.

Gran Turismo 5 is predicted to sell more than 10 million copies, outranking Hollywood movie blockbusters and enshrining the game's status as the most realistic car racing simulator on the market.

More than 2.5 million copies have reportedly been sold in the first week (Sony won't confirm or deny).  With the Christmas rush to come, the company is banking on a software and hardware (you need a PlayStation 3 to play) bonanza.

"Gran Turismo 5's first four days in Australia has exceeded our sales expectations and we are receiving great feedback on the title from consumers.  Numbers will be shared in due course, however, we can confirm that after the recent opening weekend this is the biggest  exclusive release on PlayStation 3 ever in Australia," a Sony spokesperson says.

Nothing has come close to dethroning the title as the must-own four-wheeled franchise. No matter whether you're playing for fun or using the game to learn tracks before actually racing on them, it's focus on physics hasn't been seriously challenged.

Quite impressive. 2.5 million first week? I suppose we'll get the numbers from Sony in due course.

And probably some corrections.

2.5 plus million ? Hmm. And this is reportedly sold according to the article, not shipped. Perhaps. I'm sure we'll know more later. I read initial shipments were far higher than 2.5 million.

According to many other articles 4.1 million PlayStation move controllers were sold until it was corrected by Sony themselves which was shipped.

So with 550k being shipped to France alone and 500K to Japan you think that between North America, South America and the rest of Europe as well as Asia they only shipped an additional 1.45M?

There were reports over a month ago that Sony had about 7M copies ready to ship for launch.

These numbers are indeed sold and not shipped, it is obvious.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

so what is the 2.5m source

i want to believe

And why would they only ship 2,5M WW? this would mean almost all sold for first shipment, and I won't believe Sony would be so dumb to undership their best selling franchise...

Even more dumb because everybody loves to say they overship

Not even 6 posts in and already the downplayers have come to crash the party

If anything, I expect a word from Sony soon, and ioi will adjust accordingly.

I wouldn't say down players was the right words. I think more like realists who realise that there are actually no numbers to back up claims. We see the word "record" thrown around and people assume this must mean VGC is wrong, the game has to be undertracked! When if you actually read the article it is worded very carefully. It says PS3 exclusive record. If you follow that through and have a look at the top selling PS3 exclusive in EMEAA it is GT5:P. So no surprises that its follow up might have done as'well as it?

Add to that Australia is not exactly known for its big game sales. And add even more to that PS3 is in 3rd place in Australia with 1m console sales. If a country like france which is one of the main markets for GT games sold 200k with 2.5m consoles to sell to what kind of numbers can we expect from somewhere like Australia?

Very very little in comparison.

Point being just because the article says record, doesn't mean big nimbers in comparison to places like US/UK/Japan etc. It means big numbers compared to what the format is used to selling in that region.

Now if he had said biggest selling PS3 game that would of meant a lot more. But he didn't because there are a lot more multi-platform games that have sold more. And more 360 and Wii games which have sold more.

Tonight will see the numbers for NPD released. If we have GT5 over-tracked i imagine your be the first person to say you guys were wrong then?

People with a habit of trashing something are known as downplayers. No way around it. When the same folks visit the same topic with the same behavior, that's what it is.

The article bit is irrelvant, because when we do have solid figures, those same folks parade through a thread with similar tactics. Defend it all you want, but that's what it is.

But by that logic there are also "up players" too then.

Wouldn't that normally be classified as fanboyism?
