It's realtime and in 2D. It's not because you level up that's it's a RPG.

The gameplay is exactly like the platformer genre and that's mostly how I categorize games.

And it's not because it has some RPG elements that it should be considered a RPG.

And games like Kingdom Hearts and Dark Cloud are much more action than RPG.

There can only be one dominating genre.

So RPGs can't be realtime or in 2D (and SPM isn't even in just 2D either)?  Again, can you define "RPG" for the rest of us so I can try to get some idea where you're coming from?

Honestly, the platforming in SPM is so pedestrian and subdued, I wouldn't even call it a platformer, it's really an action RPG with some light platforming (like Zelda II, Faxanadu or Ys III/VI/Origin).  Uncharted or Crackdown has more actual platforming in tem, and I wouldn't call those platformers either.  Hell even some ARPGs (LandStalker, La-Mulana) have a heavier emphasis on actual platforming. I think you just can't get past idea of Mario jumping = platformer...

Tell me what are the RPG gameplay elements then?

Because as far as I know, there are none.

All you do is run around and jump. RPG? No thanks.

All you do is run and jump?  Did you play for 5 minutes and quit?

RPG elements include a consistent overworld (complete with "dungeons"), experience system for character leveling, exploration based puzzle solving (though that's more of a JRPG trope), heavy NPC interaction, multiple party members, complex subsystems (cooking, cards, etc), a currency system, inventory system (complete with spell/healing/boosting items)... still waiting on that RPG definition btw...

Out of all those games I've only played Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Fable 2 and Demon's Souls.

I have to give this one to the 360.

SONY win big time now

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Lost Odyssey isn't developed first-party, though.

I voted Sony immediately, but as soon as I did I regreted it. If Nintendo had already localized many of its great japan only (till now) games it would be them, no questions asked. But to be honest, imo til now Microsoft has done the biggest effort.

its a tie to me, all three have (and sadly very little) great games

Demon's Souls

Lost Odyssey

Fire Emblem
