Forums - Gaming - Can a game be 2 big? (fallout related)

Playing fallout:new vegas made me think, can a game be 2 big. I now understand why the game is buggy,it's freaking massive. Thankfully you can fast travel once you discover a location, because otherwise i'd trade in this game. It seemed like it took me forever to get to new vegas. I got the dictionary of a game guide, but even that's confusing half the time, because there's so many different factor's that can happen. Don't get me wrong,I like the game, but it feel's a bit overwhelming. So my question to everybody is,can a game be to big?

yea,I normally don't play anything with RPG in it,but the FPS aspect attracted me to the game. lol

No, as long as there's something to do. And even if there's nothing to do, the world isn't too big, instead the developers didn''t, for one reason or another, finish the game properly.

That said, big worlds need some means to travel fast. But even then, if traveling takes too long, obviously someone failed to design an important element.

Lol. WRPGs have always been a bit like this. They've actually been slowly shrinking in size (both virtual space and time required to completion). Take the Elder Scrolls series as an example. Daggerfall was bigger than Morrowind which was bigger than Oblivion and I completed the main quest in Oblivion faster than in Morrowind and I never completed Daggerfall's main quest line.

So no, I don't think they can be too big, at least not in their current state.

i had heard that that game's map was somewhere around 24000-29000 miles in area and would take the players two weeks of real time running just to cross the world. didnt believe it until i downloaded it for the anniversary thing on the elder scrolls website....holy shit...

Anywho, i dont think they can be to big. as long as there is stuff to do im cool with it.

I love massive games where there is so much to do and you don't know where to begin lol.
