Not sure if this is really news, I heard this before and the last years 'We don't want Turkey to join the Eu political parties' used this information as an argument why Turkey can't join the Eu...

Yes it is. Even if nothing new came out (which it already did), it will at elast expose the inner workings of governments to people who are, today, largely naive about these things.
Besides, I think many of us welcome the throwing of a wrench into corrupt and ineffective modern governmental machines (not just the US).
