I agree with the above, SO4 takes the prize for 'most irritating cast' in JRPGs this generation so far. Even when they're subbed they remain horrific. Many other JRPGs that deserve these sales but don't have them.

I find it fascinating that it has sold more in every territory on Xbox 360 vs. PS3. Oh, I remember the days when people said it was gonna sell better on PS3!!!! lol

it did come out exclusively for 360 then was ported a while after (a year i think) so this explains it imo.
i havent played so i cant comment, but i suppose it couldnt have been worst than SO til the end of time, which i felt was a was, irronically, a waste of time.
Deserves more if you ask me. Great game!
However it just can't compare to S03s greatness! Only two games in the world better than it (IMO.)
really great sales didnt triace say they were gonna start work on the next star ocean? seems like this gen more western gamers are buying jrpgs than last gen imo. but i cant be sure. tales of vesperia would need to sell 120,000 more copies to hit 1 million sigh.
It could have gotten much higher if they didn't criple PS3 version sales by releasing it one year later.
And honestly when i look at sales of JRPG this gen it's a sad how imcompetent companies can be.
ToV - cripled sales by lack of PS3 version in West. It would outsold SO4 easily.
Eternal Sonata - again huge delays of PS3 version
WKC - Sony dropped the ball on it totally - they could have gotten it as first big JRPG on PS3 which was rpg starved at that time but due to delay it released in time frame close to FFXIII and End of Eternity
End of Eternity itself - who was the genius who released it so close to FFXIII ?

You forgot piss poor marketing for all of them
If those JRPG's had been advertised like the new IP WRPG's did (dragon age or Mass Effect) you would've seen all of them (except maybe Eternal Sonata and WKC) pass 1 Million
ROF has done 600K already.

Sega, but RoF would have lost anyways. It was a decent game, but not anywhere near FF quality.
Hopefully the PS4 will be a re-opening for JRPGs. We have been getting royally screwed over this gen on them.
I liked it a lot when I first played it.
And then I replayed Tales of Vesperia.
Took SO4 back to Gamestop the next day, 'kay.
PS: Tales of Vesperia had a single marketing attempt in America. One thing. An advert page in OXM.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

That makes no sense.
