After 5 years of being hyped up and delayed due to wanting "perfection" there really should be minimal problems... If it's as underwhelming as it sounds, then they really do deserve the low reviews...

Based on a couple videos I just watched on IGN, as always, it seems GT masters the graphics of the cars themselves...they seem to look perfect.  If you are sombody who cares about the whole surrounding graphics though, you probably won't be too majorly impressed (or may even be upset) by them...but based on my experience, pretty much any racing simulator doesn't focus on that as it  is quite honestly a waste of graphics.

Whha GT has never been about "Great Physics"...Remember playing dodgems around the inside of every tight bend when the races were tough.

GT is about rising above its imperfections and what it aspires to be, more than what it actually is.

Anyhoo I'm going to wait for all the reviews to be in.

I've heard all sorts of comments flying around from "It's a Jagfest" to "The most beautiful console game ever".

Its what you make of it that counts.

Never been about great physics??? Are you serious?  Gran Turismo has like everything perfected to make it so even the slightest changes to a car will make it handle exactly how that car would handle in real life.


If you believe the way to take a high speed corner is to slam into your competitors at the apex then speed away unscathed having taken a physically impossible parabola then I am just in awe at the power of delusion.


Even IRL there are cheap tricks someone can used in racing. For example in Nascar a driver can come up behind another car and barely touch their back end in the corners. This would loose their back end so they have to swing to the outside while the driver who did the bump  pass them on the inside.

Well of course I chose the worst images I could find on that page.

There are however some that look really good . Pretty much like in the video where some tracks looked almost pathetic while the snowy track at the very end for example looked great.

Similar things are true for the cars.

Still there shouldn't be so drastic differences in graphics. It's not like you could just skip the ugly tracks in the career mode or even the standard cars at the beginning of the game, because most of the premium cars are high end ones.

 

Btw. there is a member here that has this gif with the rain on the windshield driving on a dark track. That looked incredible, but when I watched that part in this vid where they tried to showcast the rain effects on a sunny track, I wasn't impressed at all.

In the least you can admit that GT5's graphics are inconsistant, we know this from the Premium/Standard division.

If any other next gen game had best graphics ever for the first 2 levels and last gen visuals for the last 8 levels, it wouldn't get a perfect (or high) graphics score either.

A few guys on the PS Forums said grfx are inconsistent but I thought they were being picky

actually, it could be (it is) a std car on trial mountain (old track)

so yeah, I think it is GT5

That is Gran Turismo 4.
I can almost guarantee, i was playing it yesterday and i was versing the same car on the same map and it looked the exact same as that picture.

Unless they didn't change anything for GT5.

I'm afraid it is.. and those are ugly.  I will be buying my copy tomorrow as planned though, I need to own this, to see it, to believe it.



Arghhhh, I've been waiting 5 years for this game. Pre-ordered the GT5 bundle that will arrive tomorrow...only for it to dissapoint.

I'll have to try this for my self because at the moment I'm having a hard time believing those pics.

Just saw that hour long video and together with all the comments my friends already gave it, I can't help to be disappointed already. I definitely will be buying it but man I expected this to be the end of all racing games for at least a while. It just doesn't seem like a game where they've put 6 years in without ever having problems with funding and the like. I wasn't waiting for a good racing game, I was waiting on something truly incredible and Sony made me believe this game would deliver. Hopefully I'm just the one overreacting now.
