GoldenEye successs shows Wii's 'core' following, says Nintendo

Tuesday 16-Nov-2010 10:53 PM Proof third party titles can be successful as Nintendo's own, says PR rep

Nintendo says that healthy sales of Eurocom's GoldenEye 007 on Wii prove there's still a market for core games on the console.

The Wii has earned itself a reputation for being a console mainly for casual players, due mainly to the influx of lighthearted, simplistic and casual focused games made for the console, both from Nintendo and third party publishers.

But, Nintendo UK rep Rob Saunders told MCV: "The sales of GoldenEye show that these titles can and do perform well on Wii," adding, "The idea that Wii owners are only after smaller mini-game compilations or first-party titles isn't true."

Wii is also criticised for being a harsh environment for third parties, who've over the years struggled to compete with Nintendo's own titles that routinely dominate software sales on the console.

But Saunders that's also down to the quality of the game and support from its publisher. "A good quality title, supported well by both publisher and retail, has just as much chance of performing well as any Nintendo title," he said.

150K on VGCartz and counting. Well, as long it has long legs than I can approve of what the PR is saying...

lol, first post. (I'm such a noob)

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Good so now that Nintendo knows fps with a strong multiplayer aspect can sell on wii they can get started on a real Nintendo fps.

But..bit...third parties say this is impossible!

Above: still the best game of the year.

Nintendo told High voltage software to ditch wii speak and use the headset for Conduit 2, so Nintendo are taking interest in FPS on Wii.

But no actual numbers are given.

Pretty low standards from a company which called Wii Music a failure.

Tease.

How on Earth did you come to that conclusion? Not supporting Wii speak has nothing to do with an interest in the FPS genre.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

So i guess it is a success

How successful would a restaurant be that served turd sandwiches? Would it be fair to say that people didn't want to order sandwiches at a restaurant because this restaurant failed? Why do people let third party publishers make claims that Wii owners don't want games in certain genres and then use sales from very bad games to justify their claims?

Certainly, at this point in time, I wouldn't expect similar sales to the best first person shooters on HD consoles; but third party publisher's choices to avoid producing these kinds of games for the Wii probably hurt these sales more by encouraging people to buy other consoles (or a PC) than all other factors combined.
