Forums - Sales - Kinect overtracked by 500k? PS3 > 360 weekly HW?

the press release says sold....

"Microsoft Corp. today announced it has sold 1 million Kinect for Xbox 360 units worldwide in 10 days"

Yes, Microsoft sold 1 million.  Doesn't that mean sold to retailers?  Is MS selling directly to customers I am missing somewhere or do they usually refer to (I know we on VGC do, but to the companies themselves use it?) "sold to retail" as "shipped"?

Simple question.

lulz (or maybe lulz at me if I am wrong), but yes, Microsoft sold 1 million.  Doesn't that mean sold to retailers?  Is MS selling directly to customers I am missing somewhere?

Sold to customers.  Believe in the 1.3.  It will set you free.

You make a few assumptions:

  • You're assuming shipped and not sold when the article doesn't specify at all.
  • You're assuming it's strictly 1 million and not more than one million as you should.  Remember, they probably won't release something like this on the weekend so for all you know they could have hit one million on Friday night.

Not assuming anything:

  • Its always shipped. Always. Unless they say otherwise. Why do NPD even exsist if they can collect sell through data in 10 days themselves?
  • So what do you think is fair? 1.1m... 1.3m? Even though "over" always indicates more than the closest hard number, but not more than the next pre-set level of making your reported numbers look great. If it had been more than 1.2, they'd claim more than 1.2. Not more than 1m.

Even if they did 1.3m, i doubt Kinect has a 100% sellthrough, while the PS Move has 50%?

EDIT: Even if it was fridays numbers, "more than" could even be reported as 970k with knowledge that it would atleast sell 30k in EU. So i doubt it be a time and date thing.

*brain exploded*

Use your brain and stop trolling. This is clearly sold to customers and who says they arent using NPD. Plus NPD isnt working publicly just privately probably so they can give clearly numbers in shorter situations when the companies need it.

Also 1.3 mill sold in 10 days would just sound freaking weird they would go for the fixed number. It is the same reason why people say twenty five hundred compared to two thousand and five hundred. It is perception of the numbers. .3 million does not help the numbers.

And dont assume its always shipped. What seriously is your issue with MS/Kinect/Vgchartz numbers. I have seen you criticise all three at several occasions.

Not shipped, sold to customers

Nope.

Yep, greenburg confirmed sold through to consumers.  Keep denying.

People lined up for Kinect and it had a bigger marketing campaign and it launched during holiday hype rather the duller days of September. Sellthrough is likely far higher than for Move in the initial weeks.

Agreed. SONY had 50%.. so i calculated at 80% for Kinect. More so? 90%? And even with the regards to the ever so failed "more than" argument, the numbers can not be 1.3 sold to customers as VGC is reporting.

Well MS said over 1m sold to consumers so it's anywhere between 1m and 1.25m otherwise they would say close to 1 million and a half... my personal guess is that Microsoft tracked about 1.1m or so of sold units, 200k lower than VGC... the true numbes should be anywhere between these two which would mean a fairly good tracking after all.

This is Killzone 2 all over again. I don't think we'll see Kinect adjusted down.

Not doubting the number just confused from terminology.

you do realize that the initial kinect shipment was probably about 1M, so this figure wouldn't mean anything if it was in fact "shipped"....

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Greenburg has confirmed it's to consumers?
