Forums - Sony - Why is Uncharted 2 so good

I just finished playing it for the first time and I have to say the graphics are amazing, the gun play is really fun and it's got pretty good voice acting and a well paced story. The platforming is terrible and inconsistent though (Zero Punctuation was right about it being near impossible at times to tell whether or not something was a ledge or just the background; plus Drake seems to randomly switch between super human jumps and dying when asked to jump five feet) plus there's a fair few really annoying bugs too. Still really loved it though despite a few times when it annoyed the hell out of me

People are having a go at the story? Fair enough. I agree it's not the best story in videogames, and it's a long long way away from being as realistic as the stories of Halo, Mario, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War, Donkey Kong, etc.

What makes Uncharted special though... Is the perfect gameplay. The excellent characters. The perfect visuals and music. The immense attention to detail.

If you can't see that, then I fart in your general direction.

these games don't need any deep storyline or hideo kojima, i still remember everything that happened in the Tomb Raider games, its about having memorable scenes and great pacing than having a deep storyline, keep the storylines for experts like hideo or else you won't rike it.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, maybe. Uncharted 2, I've heard of no bugs.

Well twice in the game the AI had a firefight with the wall; which confused me because she was obviously shooting at nothing. So I went on ahead up the rope only for the wall to apparently kill her and force me to start the checkpoint again. Happened again later in the game too

I saw some gameplay videos of that, including the character dying from what looked like a 10 foot fall to a ledge. Yeah that'd probably make me throw my controller at something

in the mountains puzzle platform section, i got lost. really for like an Hour

the part were you have to fight the 3 super mutants guys in the small area. I played it like 100 times

thats has to make you the worst player I ever know of (jk)

But yea, it is so good I really have no idea how could Naughty Dog possiblely top Uncharted 2 with the 3rd game, fight on top of a jet plane?? shooting while attached to a falling helicoper?? swing across a forest on fire?? taking on an army of Chuck Norris clone??

And I think while the story is quite cliche, it intergrates well with characters and gameplay, everything just feels nature and right.

You could so just make a game of that one single concept. Only problem is it'd be too hard for everyone except Chuck Norris.

That's a weird one. Most of the bugs I've seen (but rarely experienced) are in multiplayer like where someone does a melee attack on another player whose jumped off a platform. and the attack actually hits even though the player is 3 metres away.
