I have a friend who has a N64 and the original game so I might have to go and play it at his house one day :).

Wow... love almost everything he said. It seems perfect. The only thing that sucks is no online voice chat for the game.... everything else is just what i wanted
03/10/09 HUGE day in my life:
Got the game today and thought I'd throw my two cents in. First, this is first Wii FPS I’ve bought because since launch I've always said that the first time a decent game comes out that has both local and online multiplayer I would pick it up (I have played Prime 3/Trilogy, and a little bit of Word at War). I never thought it would take 4 years to get that game, but I'm so excited that Goldeneye turned out to be that game. FPSs have never been my favorite genre, but I did love playing Goldeneye on N64.
I've played through the first two levels of the story mode, and while it is definitely different from the original game, there are enough call backs for nostalgic purposes to keep me happy. The level design is very solid, and I'm quite impressed with the graphics. For the flaws, I do think the controls aren't quite perfect, they are a little finicky. I haven't done all the customization options, but have tried 4-5 and haven't found the perfect fit yet. The framerate does drop considerably at times when there is a lot action on screen, but I think the drop is worth it because of how exciting those big scenes are.
I played a couple rounds of online multiplayer too, which was very enjoyable. I was put in a match almost instantly, never experienced lag on my end, and I enjoyed the two different maps so far.
Overall I am very happy with this game. My initial impression is that it is definitely at least worth an 8 and I wouldn't be surprised after putting more time in it if I agree with the 9 that IGN gave it.
Well I must say I lean towards 1up and IGN on this one, been playing for about 4 hours now and I gotta tell ya Goldeneye is like a breath of fresh air for FPS titles, choice to stealth through levels or run n gun, many paths to take, like finding air ducts to sneak around in or run right through like you own the place, of course run n gun will end up with you dead and lacking ammo later in the stage if you don't watch it. Oh and stages have a lot of cinematic flair as well as being very long.
Really it's a game that addresses my complaints I've had about the FPS genre the past 5 years.
Oh wait thats just the singleplayer! Theres multi too! The maps are well made, its fun to play splitscreen, have yet to take it online because splitscreen with a couple of friends has been loads of fun.
The game looks really good, there are many MANY control options, the ambient sounds are a nice addition, and I love seeing enemies interact with one another or the stage itself.
Just so many things and its all in the details, its a shame the game will have a asinine ignorant and flat out idiotic review going against it from the biggest magazine publication cause gamers that love FPS games or Goldeneye should pick this one up without hesitation.

am i right that you can't play online split screen (i mean for example with a friend at your house play online)? how long is the story? i never played the original. about 10 hours, about 20?
I have been playing the single player and its really good.
I spent some time adjusting my controls. It takes a bit of time to understand how to adjust but found my sweet spot.
