Forums - Website Topics - This site needs a better method of validating accounts

It's obvious when banned people are able to make multiple accounts that there is a problem with the way accounts are validated.  That's in addition to all the other trolls using alternate accounts to hide their main identities.  Maybe it's time to start using ISP email accounts to validate users on here otherwise why even bother having a ban system?

I just find not getting dragged into flame wars (too often), and sitting on the sidelines being amused by how highly charged people get over what are ultimately non-issues, or futile arguments, to be a far less personally irksome way to "deal" with flamers and trolls.

Or if I do feel compelled to respond I usually try to make light of the situation.

I don't always manage to keep the discipline, but I do so enough so as not to get annoyed by peoples' behaviour. At least I've managed to stay free from any bannings in my time here, even while engaging in a few robust discussions. So my approach seems to have worked for me so far.

If someone is sad enough to make an alt account to post anonymously or post after being banned, does it really even matter what they have to say?

People are already as anonymous as they want to be, regardless of which account they're using.

What's next? People using alt accounts to agree with what they posted using their main account?

That said, I do support dropping the dime on those who use alt accounts for all the above reasons with the hope that those who are outed will realize just how ridiculous Alt Posting is.

the system is fine, just like any other website. I really don't care if someone makes an alt account. doesn't effect me in the slightest. lol

Ok, nice being on this site. I don't feel I was particularly a bad influence on the site, nor do I think I was a troll, but I know when I'm not wanted.

Bye

ISP email addresses can fuck right off. Nobody has one.

This site does not get nearly as bad as the other gaming sites. The administrators do moderate and ban users. Sure they can come back, but theyll get banned again. With enforcement in place it keeps things tolerable. Plus the overall maturity and gaming know how here is also above your average site. Thats what keeps me coming back.

How many permabanned users, exactly, make alternate accounts?

Most people realise that they're not wanted.

Those who do stay and continue to troll, well, there's the IP ban for that.

Who would create a new account and lose all his VGCHartz points :P?

Above: still the best game of the year.

hmm... last time I checked most ISPs give 10 e-mails account per subscriber. Given our progressive ban system and the fact that no one actually uses ISP e-mails that gives every troll 10 accounts which they can switch between, or 120 different bans of the same type they have to sustain.

Anyways, this will always be a bad idea as VGC caters to everyone. If you want a website that caters to those who have good jobs or happen to know their ISP e-mail accounts you could try visiting neogaf if you can manage to get on.
