Apparently there is nothing wrong with the control response or the interpretation of motions. There's a more in-depth and informative review here.

It seems that unlike the likes of Red Steel 2 and Tiger Woods the game doesn't hold your hand and isn't forgiving. When throwing punches you need to make sure that you're standing the right distance away from your opponent otherwise if you're standing too close it may appear that your punches are not responding to your actions. From the iWaggle review I get the impression that this takes a great deal of skill to play well and has a steep learning curve...which makes a change from just about every game released these days being too easy. On the strength of the IWaggle review I'm going to buy this game.

It'll get similar reviews to the likes of the Video Gamer and IGN one unfortunately, but not because the game or the controls are crap, but because it's a true fight simulator and for most reviewers (who will have completely missed the observations made by some guy that isn't actually paid to do reviews) the game will be too difficult. I'm relishing playing a game that requires a great deal of time and effort to master for once. A definite purchase from me, check out the iWaggle review before you make your decision.

Here's the vid:

After watching that vid, I'm definitely purchasing this game.  The issues he talks are completely patchable.  Mainly having a fixed distance and having your character partly transparent.  Hopefully they will add these options soon.

well that vid and the IGN review tell to very different stories, and after their horrid review of MAG it's clear to me the ign reviewers are fucking retarded and anything that's literally not stupid easy is straight rocket science to them. So take thier review with a grain of salt.

For some I suppose.  I'm still gettin it, though.  But I still don't see how hit detection can be misinterpreted as "unresponsive control".  By the vid, you can obviously see it's nearly 1:1, with the hit detection stopping your character's arms from doing exactly what you did in real life.  Sports Champion does the same with it's gladiator duel.  Shouldn't IGN, probably one of the largest, if not the largest, review sites said something more in tune with, "The controls are responsive, unfortunately when you aren't close enough or too close, it gives you a feeling that your movements/hits aren't being registered."  I just think this small independent reviewer gave a much more in depth review than IGN.

True, but now the question lies in whether there was a tutorial in-game or in the booklet which describes the hit detection or not. If there is, then IGN's obviously at fault. If not, then in my opinion they had a right to rate down the game. I think the score's rather too harsh, but if the hit detection was intentional to some extent, they should have cleared that up. It's one thing to not be forgiving, it's another to be completely confusing due to broken mechanics rather than game design.

Yes, I would hope they have something to explain it to people who expect something else fromt he game.  On the other hand, if you hit someone in real life and you're too close, your arm isn't going to pass completely through their body.  It just makes sense if they were going for a more realistic form of fighting.

I could agree with that, but looking at the video, it seems hard to tell the distance at which your punches are effective.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It is uncertain whether a bit more time in development could have shaped The Fight: Lights Out into something mildly enjoyable, but as it stands the finished product is a mess that is not only frustrating to play -- it is also tiring and boring. The slow and inaccurate control mechanics are frustrating, the ridiculous tough-guy approach inspires laughter, the single-player career mode will lose your interest almost immediately and multiplayer will lose you even sooner. The Fight: Lights Out is a game where the developers probably should have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

Rating Description
out of 10 Click here for ratings guide
3.0 Presentation
Clunky menus and awful video tutorials recall the Sega CD at its worst, and the career is the laziest seen in years.
6.0 Graphics
The visuals are adequate, though the locations and character designs are bland and lack personality.
4.5 Sound
A generic Hip-Hop soundtrack that compliments the usual sounds of meat-slabs being smacked.
2.5 Gameplay
With inaccurate and frustrating controls that don't work the way you want them to, you will simply end up tired and bored.
2.5 Lasting Appeal
It's hard to believe anyone will suffer these controls long enough to stick around for more than a few hours, with or without multiplayer.

Holy crap. You'd think Sony would learn by now.

I hope people who read forums like this would learn also. The Fight was spin doctored by a number of people, before it was released.  There was even a post on here with a subject header that hinted at bad, but then the article said it was good.  People then buy into the hype and the final product disappoints.  Doubt it would happen, but I think it would be beneficial if people detach their like of a console and current games on it, from feeling a need that the new stuff, and new initiatives MUST turn out good and you trumpet hype like some sort of sales rep out of pride for your console, and a need for it to persuade others.  One of the worst things that one can have for their console of choice is BAD titles released under too positive expectations.

this is a good review. but i'm not buying until the patch is available. This video review points out the exact problems in this tile, i.e. movement distance and camara. With these issues, it is a bad game. Hope the developer can provide a quick patch and then i may pick up a copy at reduced price :)

Saw this debuted at GDC.  Not surprised at all by this horribly negative review, but I kind of thought they'd improve the game by the time it launched.  I'd like to see the prices of the first Move and Kinect games in a couple months, and see which prices drop the hardest, and which don't.

But hey guys:

(Couldn't find the animated version!)

Lol as someone who used to do boxing this game was my deciding factor on getting the Move controller. Looks like my decision is made. LMAO 3/10, I have never seen a game get that before Lol.

wait for more reviews.

If the game got a 6 or 7 then maybe I'd wait for more reviews but 3/10 is really bad. I don't usually go by reviews when it comes to games but if a game gets a score like that then it must be crap.

Not necessarily, There was a magazine that gave FF13 4/10...oh wait...

No I'm kidding, ff13 was bad but wasn't that bad, I maintain it's best to look at more than one review to get a better picture, even if it got 10/10, I would have said wait for more reviews, maybe this guy who reviewed it didn't have a clue what he was doing, or hates motion control or whatever (again I stress I would say the same thing if it was the other way around.)

Also, most previews have been praising the 1:1 ness of the game and imersion, so what the hell happened? I'm waiting for others like GT to see what they have to say.

Videogamer gave it 5/10. It also says the controls lack of responsiveness.

Maybe he didn't know what he was doing either. Or the control is actually shit.

if you read the review he said that it only played it for half an hour. wow really.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

From this game was revealed to now, it never showed much promise. For those that are dissapointed...you bought into the hype, despite many videos and previews showing it's inaccuracy, and drab gameplay.

Seems like almost all Move titles get low scores since gameplay sucks..Just like most early Wii titles.

I'm not sure how the responsiveness of the control correlates to the length of the playing time. The longer you play the more responsive the control becomes?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

not really, but 30 minutes isnt enough to be good at the game. for me mario kart wheel controls are terrible. in reality theyr not that bad and i just suck at it, and i played over 40 hours of that game.
