Forums - Sales - PS3 can still finish in first place.

75 million is an optimistic scenario, due to the fact that next year will probably be the last year of "real" sales for all consoles, then maybe some more months into 2012. PS3 will probably get close to 60 million next year. I can see it getting to 65 million, maybe 70, but 75 is a tad high.

I think another 15 Million year for the PS3 would be possible. Especially if the price goes to $199. Could surpass the 60 mark possibly.

I think another 15 would be possible after that within 2/3 years. More than possible.

Depends if the support stays there though.

Looking at software sales, I don't find Wii and PSP all that comparable to be honest.  Never really have been either.

And if Nintendo were to just continue along as is with Wii, I think your scenraio would shift to more likely than not.  Unfortunately, that seems like a pretty remote scenario... Nintendo will jump first and that (in turn) will force the others hands earlier than they (or publishers) will probably want...

I was talking about the huge piracy and lack of 3rd party love. Not overall SW sales.

And Nintendo releasing a new console wont necessarily mean Sony/MS will also release one.

Lack of 3rd party love?  Are we talking about the same PSP, the one that just got new MGS and KH games?

And I agree, I think PS3/360 can probably last awhile against a reasonably specced/priced Wii 2 (which will probably be just above PS3 in capability and cost, and probably launch next fiscal year)... but such a system will attract new buyers, new attention, and get the next gen console cycle rolling.  It'll probably also squeeze out the "HD loser" in various markets pretty quick (probably PS3 in US/UK, 360 in continental EU/JP), forcing the others into action.  You can be sure, neither PS3 or 360 will go a full decade years without a successor on shelves... and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see one ready by the end of 2012 even.

Depends on the release of the PS4. I expect it to be announced in 2011, which could drag sales down. I think it'll release in late 2012, and I don't see more PS3 sales after that point.

Guys, I think you're all forgetting that negative sales will kick in soon.

you need dig that graph up for us to refresh our memory.

Okay, who revived this... oh? It's not a revival? *sighs*

I've posted my thoughts on things in the PS3 vs PS2 thread. Needless to say, I don't think it will happen. I'm not ruling out second place, but I really don't see first...

This is what i'm confused about... will there be a PS4. i think theres a possibility there wont be.

I think microsoft and sony will release their nex consoles in 2013. Nintendo maybe in 2012. I dont think PS3 will maximize its sales before then. It would be rather dumb to announce a PS4 when your console is still sitting at $299 price point.

Both PS3 and 360 could get to first place eventually, depending on when Nintendo drop the Wii.

Wii could stop selling now, never move another unit, and it's more likely than not that PS3 and 360 couldn't catch it.

Wow you seriously think the PS3 and 360 won't reach 75 million? I just figured that was a given at this point in time.
