Forums - Sales - Come in everyone...let's talk about these PS3 software sales numbers

Well now this site has PS3 software at 303 million, so there must have been adjustments somewhere but to what?

probably around 30-40k increases across most of the software.

Well, remember these things:

- 30-40k stores worldwide sell games, each has 500 - 1500 games on shelves / in stores - ~30-40m isn't an unreasonable range for software on shelves (if not more - just grabbing a ballpark figure out of the air). Also, over 600 titles that would be only 50-60k per title which again seems about right.

- A lot of games (in EMEAA in particular) aren't tracked. Small ones admittedly, but they add up.

A similar situation holds for Wii and DS software:

Nintendo - 610m Wii and 773m DS software shipped in
VGChartz - 532m Wii and 600m DS software sold so 78m difference for Wii and 170m difference for DS (loads of pre 2006 games missing).

If you examine region-by-region you can see that once you take a set chunk for stock on shelves the main discrepancies lie in the EMEAA region which is where we have a lot of missing data.

Are you sure you're not low-balling the figure here? Microsoft cited 30,000 game stores in the U.S.A. alone which were selling Kinect. If you double that again for the rest of the world then you're over 60,000 game stores and thats still probably low balling it.

Tease.

its hard to track  sale games on this site..

 i know they didnt track

pain blu ray

wipeout blu ray

sengoku basara

dynasty wariors 5 empires

and many more.

vgc  has done a great thing on this site, but even they cant do everything.

there are games that just dont sell. Not all games sell all there shipped copies, not even MW2. There are tonnes of MW2 copies lying around brand new since they overshipped it.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

and yet again someone plays the "sony makes up the numbers" card without any proof to back it up. seems a trend

Easy: those 70 million units were copies of Metal Gear Solid 4. If you understand how much VGChartz likes to undertrack MGS4, everything else falls into place.

Xbox 360 software is way overtracked. MS got over 9 ratio in USA not world wide, overall it may well be under 8 WW.

This is the real question. Ioi once said ps3 and wii number are not overtracked and that 70 million between sold and shipped is correct. Why then there is no difference in 360 between shipped and sold? both are almost the same last time I chequed (31th december numbers)
