Forums - Sales - Game.co.uk sells preowned games as "new"

So I got my copy of Castlevania yesterday but to my surprise there was no cellophane and the game had a sticker to prevent you from opening it. It says you have 30 days to return it if the sticker is intact. Very deceptive cus the game was advertised as new.

What should I do? Return it or keep it? It was £22.99 and I thought that had a promotion going. Sure I wont be getting any future games from them.

I've bought from Game/Gamestation online in the past. Always been in the wrapper, so this is weird.

I'd return it and make a complaint.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

this is unacceptable!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Gamestop has the practice of opening games and putting the empty boxes on the shelves. The games have never been played, but they don't have the factory shrink wrap. By definition, they are new. I know everyone likes to complain about it and cry because they didn't get to peel the shrink wrap off themselves, but if you must go buy somewhere else.

As for this instance, maybe their online store got left over product from a brick & mortar store and then shipped it out. If their stores use that practice, then by definition it is new and never used and there was no deception.

If you don't like how it is wrapped, then return it and complain. Then buy from someone like Amazon who doesn't unwrap your item for you.

Personally, if I was concerned, I would snap a photo and then open it. If the disc was scratched or showed any usage I would complain and show them proof of how it arrived. Otherwise I would enjoy my product.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I've heard many stories in the past about Game selling pre-owned as new. Some turned out to be honest mistakes, some did not. It's one of many reasons why I tend to avoid them wherever possible.

I buy frequently from GAME online and I have never had this problem (and I nearly always get the game a day early if I pre-order). I would take it back and ask for a replacement if you want a replacement, but if the game is working fine why not keep it?

I rarely buy from game nowadays, the last thing I bought was the Zelda Spirit Tracks special edition tin preorder, and that was only because due to a pricing error on the website it was £25 (same as the standard game) instead of £35, which they changed it to within hours of me making the purchase, they never changed my bill though!

I have heard stories of Game selling pre-owned as new, but if the game works fine I would just forget about it and enjoy your game.

By all my games from Game, have done so for many many years. Never had a problem with them. Games are always new and always have the authentication seal on them. Tend to get them delivered a day before release too, like my own copy of Fable III arrived today.

Seeing as they are the UK's biggest gaming place and the spotlight is very much on them and their stores i doubt very much they do this on purpose as we have strict selling laws in UK. If they were caught doing this they could get is serious trouble will trading standards authority. I doubt they would risk potentially having their license removed for a few hundred pounds here and there.

This is why EA/THQ etc are puttin in the online passes. That way you know when you buy from Game/Gamestop etc that you're getting a genuine new title instead of a 2nd hand one. This makes it all clear to me now!
