good, very good.
Just like it should be.

I had got rid of my habit of pirating to an extent where I bought all games I thought I would really want but now it seems I'm going back to my bad old habits. Better than rip-off DLC but still bad. |
How is this worse? Players that buy the game new (even if they wait until it's bargain bin price) pay no extra. Only people who buy it used are affected... And they aren't even technically customers of EA (only of gamestop, since EA currently gets nothing from used sales)
Well, I don't mind though. The only ( major ) problem I see is the region locking for online play. There's a poster here post something like that and that will post a major problem for me because here in my country they are selling from US, EU, and asian version.

It boggles my mind that some consumers could possibly support this
Not that it matters. It will fail to stop used sales. Consumers never take well to efforts to control them

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
i don't support this...but as i only buy new games i find it hard to care.
actually, there is one place i do care. i bought Rockband 2 (supposedly new) and when I got home and tried to download the "free" dlc that came with the game i couldn't. seems that my code had already been used. i'd guess some kid from the store opened my game and took the number for himself.
dick move is dickish.
so bottom line...if they do go through with this, make damn sure the number is safe or i will be very very angry.

Buy game new, get free stuff Buy game used, dick move
I don't see a problem here, I mean, if you're going to be buying a game on the first day/week anyway, how can you NOT support it, in the long run it's saving you a ton of money...
Seriously, people who don't support this are pretty much retarded and don't understand the concept of free. |
Leaving aside that you just called me retarded, i just find it odd that the people who support this don't see the slippery slope here. They're only doing this because they can't crush used sales more directly, and this is simply one stop on the road to "you don't own the game you own the right to play the game under certain conditions"
It's obviously anti-consumer. It's not free stuff, it's stuff that would have been free, but is now made "less free," or outright monetized

I still hate how they're limiting our options. There really aren't that many industries that try to limit our ability to buy used products. Gaming industry is exceptionally greedy.
I can see why they're doing this but I can't accept this. I'm a consumer and I like to think like one. Also, I can't afford to buy 60€ games considering how much more I would have to pay to get the full experience. No, I will buy used all but the best of games. Luckily Gamestop and such won't get my money either. Like so many (but still too few) people seem to think, at Gamestop's prices for used copies it's better to pay the little extra for new. I don't like handing out money to big companies either due to their attitude towards us but at least they've done something to earn that money unlike game stores.
Free DLC for new copy buyers would be good but this feels more like removing functionality from those buying it used. Oh wait, they would limit their rip-off capabilities... Yeah, I'm not a big fan of DLC. I still remember when I didn't have to pay 2€ to get a skin or two but instead got ten for free in the game... And when withing a month of the game's release we didn't get a 5€ pack adding a game mode that should have been in the game in the first place.
Anyway, feel free to disagree. I'm sure you do. Just don't try to tell me my opinion is wrong and doomed, I've heard that so many times already. It only serves to make me angry.

I never said it was rip-off. I believe I said this is better than rip-off DLC.
EDIT: Actually I think I might still be getting a better deal by buying used :D If I don't like that game, I didn't pay nearly as much (unless I'm stupid and go to Gamestop), and if I do, I won't lose much more than buying new. In the long run, it ought to be better than buying everything new. Still, it will cost more than no online pass at all.
I dont mind this idea, seem fair in a sense, but really screws the gamers who buy their games used.
It's a grate incentive to buy new I do buy all my games new so why not get some cool free DLC for your trouble in fact some Publishers have been doing First Press Edition bonus content for some time like Namco Bandai in Japan for example.

Well, bear in mind, in virtually any other industry, products naturally degrade. You can buy a used car, but that car will eventually die, and it's overall total usefulness is capped. Whether I drive it until it dies, or I sell it after a few years and someone else finishes it off, the 150,000 miles or whatever that the car can drive is limited. A game could be passed to 40 different people, and each of them can get the full game experience. It's just a massive number of lost sales for the publisher/developer.
Besides, we all have the option to buy games a few months later when they come down in price. publishers are fine with that too... they just want a cut of the profits from what they make.
(That's not to say I like how EA does business in general, but I look at a game like Mass Effect's relatively low sales, and realize that people really need to buy it. I played the game repeatedly and passed it to friends who all loved it, and the game sold way less than it deserved. So now that you can get ME2 for $20 I strongly encourage my friends to buy it, rather than borrow mine)
