Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo XMas 2010..... Genius or Madness?

and year 2 for

Isn't this slightly overkill on the 2d plaformers?

3rd parties usually avoid each other when releasing their FPS' don't they? Is Nintendo not worried about cannibalising sales?

Am I alone in thinking this is slightly strange?

Likely they think Kirby will perform more like Good Feel's other game, and Donkey Kong will perform on a higher standard. Shake It! certainly wasn't cannabalizing anything.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Kirby isn't out in Europe until '11 and I haven't seen Mario's 25th announced for NA so it's not as bad as that.

However Metroid: OM and Fling Smash are side scrollers as well but not likely to take many sales from Kirby/DK.

Really it's just a matter of if Kirby and DK will cannibalize each other's sales in NA (also add Sonic Colors in the mix) to which they probably will slightly but not tremendously as Nintendo fans and platforming fans will almost certainly get both.   Casual players may get one or the other (or in Europe DK or Mario 25th) and then Wii Party (or Just Dance 2).

Personally I'm still debating if I'm getting DKCR.   Never played a DKC game before (just the N64 game which was 'meh') but it looks like fun.    Likely it'll get bounced in '11 for me as I'm still playing through Metroid and now have Kirby.  Sooner get Goldeneye (if it's good), NBA Jam, or even Wii Party over another 2D platformer.   For that matter, I still need to finish NSMBW.

Nintendo and other companies really released a lot of platformers around the same time. It makes my life annoying, now I have to decide between them.

Kirby skews towards a younger, female audience while Donkey Kong is better suited to the older, lapsed gamer.

New Super Mario Bros is from last year so I don't think it counts. If it's bundled in both America and Europe, it won't even matter.

Super Mario Collection is mostly for Japan, who have proven themselves completely bonkers over 2d Mario.

Aside from this, the only other 2d platformers are downloadable titles. It is certainly not as saturated as the first-person shooter market and deserves the extra attention its getting.

The more games out there that people might want to buy ... the better it is.

I just wish we had the opportunity to buy Mario 25 in NA.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Maybe it works for them. I would have hoped for some other kind of games. :P

Sonic Colours comes out on wii too. epic mickey is another platformer. And we already had SMG2 this year... Really epic stuff :D

Yeah maybe a turn off to some, but hell to the old school crowd this is truly fairy tale stuff, who would've thought of a platformer comeback of this proportion??

oh boy, does this mean we have to update the old cliche?  wii, it's like two snes' duct taped together.

OT - that is quite a lot of 2D releases.  I imagine they would have to canablize each other at least somewhat.

Genius, because people love those old-school value games.

Above: still the best game of the year.
