The things are like things because Nintendo Believes to much in their ego this year. I hope that Wii fails this Christmas, to finally Nintendo show to us the Wii2. 3DS will fail in launch to because of their Ego to. It's new mistakes that will make Nintendo more strong for next gens.

Please don;t bring 3DS or DS into this

They are both awesome handhelds and Ninty's handhelda are always awesome!

How do you know 3DS is awesome, you haven't even played it?

I own a  PS3 and a Wii

I have full right to be extremely pleased when the better product in my eyes is doing better. And I can safely assume 360 is a better product too because 90% of PS360's library's are similar.

Its not a matter of kicking it when its down....more of a finally seeing justice.

I would have thought you had sold your wii already.

DKCR, Zelda and Xenoblade have me holding onto it

Didn't know you even liked zelda.

Didn't like TP much

Wind Waker was one of the bes t games ever though.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The Wii deserves to take a beating from the PS360 because they are superior machines. Wii catered to casuals, many of whom wised up and realized that there are better games are on other consoles. It was inevitable.

OP: No doubt, but Nintendo fans have produced some world class gloating and condescension this generation. What goes around comes around, I guess.

Personally, I don't really have a lot invested in this gen any more so I can't seem to care a whole lot to be honest. However, I do find it amusing that certain users who, with fanfare and bravado, declared all sorts of crazy feats and merits for the Wii are now all but gone from the site. Its okay to be mistaken, if you leave a forum simply because you were proven (dead) wrong, you really take things way to seriously online. If I were to leave a forum every time I was wrong, I might as well disconnect the modem for good...

Couldn't agree more with this.

I can think of more than a few offhand that I expect to never hear anything from again on this site in regards to global "Nintendomination", not that it really matters.

When you're wrong, you're wrong. It happens all the time to everyone. Some just have a habit of setting themselves up for being really off base when they get too carried away with what's trending at the time.

The Wii is in first place and will will remain there for the rest of this console generation.

Year-to-year or lifetime over this generation?

I agree neither the PS3 nor 360 will top the Wii this generation.Year-to-year, the Wii can lose market share and not end up the top selling console of 2010 or whatnot.

I don't think it would be too crazy if the totals at the end of the generation were something more along the lines of 40% 30% 30% for the Wii, Xbox and PS3 respectively, give or take a couple percentage points between the three.

For that to happen, Nintendo would have to continually lose market share to the others, which seems to be the trend right now, with no forseeable game changers to drastically and permanently reverse this.

But even if that were the case, there will still be die hards who overlook where the best third party support went and any reversals in sales trends over the generation and simply boil things down to which sold the most as the only thing that mattered.

Of course, some of these same people were probably predicting that Nintendo would end up with 60% of the marketshare or more by the end of the generation and by that merit become the premiere development platform for third parties, but it's currently not looking too likely for either.

It's finally happening. If Nintendo wanted they could get third party support like Sony and Microsoft which make deal after deal for third party games. And Nintendo makes games with ps2 graphics and ps1 gameplay, I miss my n64, that was a great console.
Plus for the "The HD consoles will outsell wii only 3-4 years and won't even matter", have you stopped to think how low Wii software sales will be in 3-4 years if the trend continues? So low it won't even matter.

But war... war never changes

Who would that be? I think many people have just left the site over the years, which would include lots of pro-Wii predictions (considering the ratio of Nintendo fans the site had)

Though if you're just talking about trolls, it's the same for all camps.

Still, the Wii isn't doing as bad as people are making it out to be. Unless this holiday ends up being disastrous, it's still selling around PS2 levels. The recent surge in 360 sales or higher PS3 sales don't change that.

In all fairness, it's more or less true that people who are biased towards one platform would leave if there wasn't any positive trending in its current sales rates. You know; all those who practically posted weekly counter threads on the Wii's climb to 50% marketshare along with the obligatory "how high will it go?!" predictions.

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like there were a lot more Sony fans on here AFTER the $299 PS3 actually started moving hardware in a significant manner. It was pretty rare then (arguably even rarer now) to see a contrarian Super Sony Fan Boy who in defiance of all logic believed that the PS3 would ever become the market leader this generation.

360 fans genrally haven't been the most vocal as a group until lately as prior to the release of the 360S, the platform was pretty consistently losing marketshare very gradually (pretty easy when you start from 100% though).

I really don't see a problem with enjoying a console's positive sales trends. Seeing a favorite console/handheld of yours see great sales is definitely something to cheer about.

However, when you start cheering because a console you don't own/like is showing negative sales trends... that one I really don't understand. Each console on the market has a part to play, and fans to cater to. Just because you don't like its games/hardware/whatever, doesn't mean its deserving of scorn when it's not lighting up the charts.

And yes, this goes for everyone. I saw it with the PS3 and 360 a year ago, we're seeing it with Wii right now, and PSP... well that handheld has been getting it for a long time now. DS is really the only exception... that thing sells like no other.

This whole cycle of putting down consoles won't end until people (read: us) put an end to it. You think Wii users wont remember this when Wii starts showing big growth this holiday season? So I'll tell the Wii users first: celebrate your console's success, and dont pick on a console when its down. Maybe then we can see some change of heart around here, where people aren't so quick to harp on a console's hardships. There's a place for each console here on VGChartz, so lets celebrate what they stand for and to the enjoyment that they bring to people.

Considering the level at which the PS360 are outselling the Wii, it would take another 3-4 years for the Wii to hit 40%. nevermind 30% marketshare. By that point it wont matter, as new consoles will be released.

Well actually in terms of software sales it has already reached that point. Take a look at worldwide yearly totals thus far.

Xbox = 70M PS3 = 70M Wii = 87M

Dude, really? We're going to base marketshare on software sales now suddenly, like we've EVER done that before? Are we going to next calculate marketshare based on how much playtime each console gets based on Nielsen numbers?

It's kind of what happened to the PSe this gen - they had this huge ego coming off the PS2, decided to overcharge for PS3, and in turn got their asses handed to them. Had they charged $300-$350 at launch, they would've conquered this generation. The combination of a weakened economy and overpricing led them to their grave with the PS3.

An interesting side note, I'm noticing that a noticeable portion of MS fans have gone and got a PS3 after multiple replacements of the 360s from RROD. What I DO find interesting is how the Sony Move just released, and it's not selling a lot more units than the Wii is, which really doesn't have much to write home about as far as new releases go. With the natural Nintendo holiday sales increase, I doubt the other systems will surpass it this holiday season.
