ah well guess I'll leave it on the store shelves for a good few years and hopefully by then the patches will have brought it up to shape...
got a feeling this will eventually end up on 360 to bring in the extra sales

if you want a good japanese game i suggest yakuza! |
Oh yeah. Good! I forgot Yakuza. It is a really good game (i like it very much), but it is not incredible and fantastic like old times japanese games. It is not a step away from western games, if you know what i mean. :(

FFXIII, NIER and KH:BBS are all better than DQIX Square isn't doomed. See what happens when I state opinion like a fact? |
I did not play Nier (is it fantastic like old times?) and KH:BBS. IMO, Final Fantasy XIII was the worst of all and i really wanted to enjoy the experience, but i cannot stand what they did with the game's pace. There were chapters that annoyed me to hell : the scrapyard was unbelievable boring, like the worst anime filler. :(

I think new times are fantastic too so I can't comment on the bolded. You think SE is doomed, so its best if you don't take my opinion about those games because I believe they are the best devs of this year by a mile.
For me FFXIII was far better than DQIX because of the battle system, pacing never bothered me because battles never got boring and neither did the music, I am still on Pulse now 150 hours into the game. The scrapyard (chapter 4) was fantastic in serving for character development and introducing several key gameplay elements. Chapter 10 was the only filler chapter, then again every single FF has filler parts, don't see why I should single out XIII for having one.

There have been a crap loads of incredible Japanese games this gen. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Dragon Quest IX, Monster Hunter, Jean D'Arc, Little King's Story, Blazblue, Street Fighter IV, Megaman 9/10, TWEWY, Sin and Punishment 2, SSB Brawl, Mario Kart DS/Wii, Fire Emblem RD, Metal Gear Solid 4, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, NSMB DS/Wii, Pokemon, Tales of Vesperia/Graces, Advance Wars DS/DC, Demon Souls, etc and probably loads more I have forgotten/ can't be bothered to mention

I'm just curious, have you played FFXIV?
Not everything is a big anti-Sony conspiracy, it really is an awful game. It has nothing to do with console it is or isn't on.
It's a shame they messed this one up.
The artstyle is the best I've seen in a game in a long time.
I LOVE ICELAND!

If you want old school style JRPGs, just stick on the DS. You have your oldschool ports (Chrono Trigger), remakes (FF4), continuations of old series (FFTA2), and entirely new IPs (TWEWY), which are actually quite good. And that's just from Square Enix. Nintendo and Atlus have their own swarm of old school styled games and games that do not rely upon $10 million cutscenes.
