No too early, there are many reasons why that won't happen, one is the 3DS, launching at $250 in the west, they won't release a console so close to that, as it would be too close in price to the 3DS, and that would hurt sales.

Reason 3DS? Nintendo released the DS within a year of the Wii.

Reason $250? They could have made much more money selling the Wii at $300 and obviously the market will bear that price given PS3/360 sales and the inflated price of the Wii at retail.

Reason price difference? People don't cross shop a handheld with a home console like that. I doubt anyone would get pissy if the price is similar and they certainly arent with the DSi XL price being $170 and the Wii price being $199.

To the bold:

The Nintendo DS was released in November of 2004 in the US and in December of 2004 everywhere else. The Wii was released 2 years later, in the November of 2006.

The Virtual Boy was released within a year of the N64, though.

I am absolutely certain that the DS was released here in Europe in March 2005.

Fortunately my Uncle had a business trip to the US in January and he got me a DS then.

On topic: As for SS' release date, I think it will be mid 2011.  Remember that all we saw of Other M in E3 2009 was a slightly confusing trailer and that came out August/September 2010.  Also remember Galaxy 2 only had a trailer, I guess that the game only needed a bit of tweaking of the Galaxy engine though, rather than built from scratch.  Skyward Sword on the other hand had gameplay at E3 2010, somewhat suggesting it will be out in early/mid 2011.

And before anyone points it out, I do realise that Golden Sun DD was revealed (with gameplay; albeit very minor) at E3 2009.  Though I think that that is the exception rather than the rule.

But remember that the gameplay was supposedly pure demo, meaning they had the engine up and running in its entirety, as well as models for Link and his foes and some basic textures and stuff, but the rest of the world, story, NPCs, dungeons and a large percentage of enemies might have not existed as of E3 2010.

Galaxy 2 and Other M trailers at E3 09 showed a variety of environments from all throughout both games

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That, and i remember that it was said that SS's gameplay and cotrols were being developed before the story and that they had the priority in the beginning, they'd create the worlds and levels/dungeons after they were done with the main gameplay

Oops yeah sorry I always get mixed up between those two. Will Khuutie forgive for such a schoolboy error?

You're my hero. Sort of a mix between Tina Turner and DC universe.

Tease.

i won't say it will and i won't say it will not...but i have previously entertained the thought of SS being an N6 launch title.

Nintendos goals are to expand the market and increase profitability every year where possible given they are a publicly traded company. Nintendo cannot achieve these goals with the Wii anymore, they simply aren't going to restart this engine. So it does make sense that they would release in 2011 their N6.

DS was a good deal cheaper than the Wii, so they could be released so soon together, the Next Nintendo console is probably two years off at earliest and will probably be no more than $300 at most

Actually they do a bit, they do look at the price of one and wonder why the other is so expensive, not everone, but enough to give Nintendo pause, the difference with the XL and Wii, is the Wii is seen as older while the XL, while just a revision is seen as newer
