Nintendos goals are to expand the market and increase profitability every year where possible given they are a publicly traded company. Nintendo cannot achieve these goals with the Wii anymore, they simply aren't going to restart this engine. So it does make sense that they would release in 2011 their N6.

No too early, there are many reasons why that won't happen, one is the 3DS, launching at $250 in the west, they won't release a console so close to that, as it would be too close in price to the 3DS, and that would hurt sales.

Reason 3DS? Nintendo released the DS within a year of the Wii.

Reason $250? They could have made much more money selling the Wii at $300 and obviously the market will bear that price given PS3/360 sales and the inflated price of the Wii at retail.

Reason price difference? People don't cross shop a handheld with a home console like that. I doubt anyone would get pissy if the price is similar and they certainly arent with the DSi XL price being $170 and the Wii price being $199.

DS was a good deal cheaper than the Wii, so they could be released so soon together, the Next Nintendo console is probably two years off at earliest and will probably be no more than $300 at most

Actually they do a bit, they do look at the price of one and wonder why the other is so expensive, not everone, but enough to give Nintendo pause, the difference with the XL and Wii, is the Wii is seen as older while the XL, while just a revision is seen as newer
