A handheld device isn't the same as a home device, plain and simple. If you said are hadnhelds "portable" consoles, then that's different. But a PS3 isn't a PSP.

His wording is off, I'll give you that, I found myself a little confused at first too. Then I re-read it carefully and agree with his point, handheld devices and home consoles are not the same. A PSP isn't the same as a PS3, otherwise it's name wouldn't be PlayStation PORTABLE.

Nobody is arguing that they're the same. We're arguing that they're consoles.

But...no one is saying that home consoles and portable consoles are the same. (Some) People are saying that a portable is a console.

All this got me thinking. My next gaming device will be the 3DS. But I hardly travel - my main use for it, 95% of the time or more,  will be at home (primarily late at night in bed, and also sometimes in an unmentionable place where until now I either read something or solved some puzzles...). So the 3DS will be my next... home console .

The funny thing is that in Chinese, if a device's primary function is to play video games, guess what we call them? Video Game Machines! All else that falls in that category are, holy shit! SUB-CATEGORIES FOR VIDEO GAME MACHINES!

This thread hurts people's intelligence.

Uh he CLEARLY states what he means, you're agreeing with him, he clearly said when he thinks of the word console he thinks of a static (or rather HOME) console, by which yeah that IS a console it doesn't mean others just aren't consoles, it's not even a debate of semantics or definition, portables and home consoles ARE CONSOLES, a portable is not a HOME CONSOLE, and a home console is not a PORTABLE CONSOLE.

Hey, I mainly use my DS as a home console myself.   I don't travel enough...

    So my question to you is, did you lie and change the definition in your post, or was the definition changed in the time between when you posted, and when I just looked it up, because....number 5.....don't say what you claimed it did.

    However, it is Wikipedia, and so even if it did change, you are still at fault for trying to post infomration on that site as evidence as to your opinion.

    So by that logic, I also like number 5 because it agrees with me, saying that "handhelds" are actually handheld videogame consoles, so wtf bro? How and why did it change, and did it ever say what you claimed it did in the first place?
