Forums - Microsoft - Sure Kinect will have a lot of sales but will it bring in that much profit?

What is the budget for advertising Kinect? Like 200,000,000? With a advertiisng budget like that how is Microsoft going to be successful financially? Also we don't even know if kinect will sell that well (even though it is likely). Do you guys think it will will bring in a lot of profit?

Profit is at best a secondary goal for companies like Microsoft and Sony who have higher ambitions and want to move gaming to the next level at all costs, literally. They aren't in this business just for the money like a certain Japanese company that has been selling the same games since 25 years.

Sega?

Edit: your grammar fails.

I don't think kinect will cover it's budget. But it sure will make a good image for Xbox360°

Above: still the best game of the year.

Kinect will surely be a spectacle to watch, no matter how well (or more interresting) or bad it does.

I LOVE ICELAND!

If this number is true, and I doubt it is Kinect will be advertised on every channel every day during every commercial break for the entire holiday season. Bulk ad time costs little the more you buy and thats a shit load of money.

I dont really think MS cares if they profit off the bat. I think they are more intersted in expanding their userbase for now and the XBOX 720 gen with this stupid camera.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

well MW2 had an advertising budget of $100,000,000 and the commercials were not always on.

Edit- Nevermind MW2 had a 200,000,000 marketing budget. Kinect will most likely be the same if not more.

We can't assume MS is going to try to out spend MW2. It doesn't seem they attempted to do so with Reach. Halo Reach made 200 million on day one by the way.

I presume Kinect is being sold at a profit and sales look like they are gonna be huge. On top of that, it'll boost console and software sales.

Yea, sometimes stuff like this isn't about making a profit right away.  When it releases and gets it's rave reviews, people will go and buy a 360 that didn't previously have a 360, then get Kinect, balancing it out for that purchase.  It will open up the total userbase to the 360 quite a bit...which will in the end allow Microsoft to make more profit on games, etc.  I betcha the games they make for Kinect and Move (such as Sports Champions) are relatively cheap to make and have very high attach ratios for these things, which is what makes them money in the end.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Profits for Microsoft Gaming division isn't their primary goal.

I don't think they are opposed to making a shit ton of money either.

With the launch of Reach, Slim sales, Live subscriptions, and Kinect. I have a feeling 2010 is gonna be a very profitable year for MS.

We just need to know if Kinect is being sold at a loss or not.
