I don't think there is room for a last place console in America.  If your console is in last place, it needs to stop doing business.  Who cares if it is selling thousands of a consoles a week and making plenty of money.   So the ps3 needs to go away, which would then make the Wii the last place console.  So then the Wii would need to stop doing business.  Leaving America to just the 360.  Thats how business is done son

But while the 360 would be in first place, it would also be in last place, so Microsoft would have to leave the industry as well.

true, your logic is sounds my friend.  I guess there just isn't room in NA for video game consoles.

I'm getting sick of people saying that the Wii didn't have any big releases this year, it's had heaps of titles released for it, the fact that they don't sell is the fault of the console and not the fault of it's competitors.

No More Heroes 2

Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Ultimate All-stars

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Red Steel 2

Metroid: Other M

Sin & Punishment 2

Endless Ocean: Blue World

Monster Hunter Tri

Trauma Team

It's gotten all these games and more. All of them have been well reviewed and they all released in 2010 alongside heaps of third party Wii titles.

The same thing could be said for the 360, but 360 fas aren't throwing around the 'no games' excuse, so I'll excuse them from my annoying lists.

The PS3 is doing fine in America, it was being outsold by a few thousand by the 360 just before it's slim release and it's currently outselling the Wii. Once Sony cuts the price or whatever, then maybe it'll jump, but I'd bet that the Americas is 360 territory for the rest of the year.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

PS3 is fine IMO. Its just that us americans like to buy what other people have. People had the 360 first so other people started buying 360 over ps3. I guess they don't see how great of a value the PS3 is. Anyways the excuses most people have for not buying a PS3 is that "NO one has  a PS3, and i want to play with my friends."

But the SEGA DREAMCAST was out 1 year before the PS2 in NA and was selling gangbusters until the PS2 lunched so I believe it a mater of popularity not just physical numbers.

Its doing just fine for being the most expensive console, nobody knows for sure the effect GT5 is going to have and next year is full of exclusives. With no offense to the 360 but it seems their biggest game next year will be Gears of wars 3 but still Kinect is gonna sell truckloads.

Sony fans have a strong argument that the PS3 is a solid product, and it is.. but  from a business perspective, Sony can't take another last place console.  They really are just now barely making money from the PS3 which hardly offsets whats been lost the since launch 4 years ago.

If you want to compare Apples to Apples we neeed to stop comparing the sales of the PS3 to the Wii or Xbox 360.. This Gen probably has about 3 more yrs till you start seeing Next Gen consoles ( which gives you nearly a ten year cycle ) ..

If you want to compare Apples to Apples stop comparing the sales of the PS3 to the Wii or Xbox 360..

Xbox 1 sold  24.6 million lifetime - Xbox 360 has sold 45.3 million so far ( an INCREASE of 98% more owners then the previous console userbase )   ---->  PS2 sold 137.1 million Lifetime - PS3 has sold 37.8 Million so far ( A DECREASE of 73% less owners then the previous console userbase ) --- >  GameCube sold 21.7 Million Lifetime - Wii has sold 74.2 Million so far ( an INCREASE of NEARLY 300% more owners ! ) .. Software wise you'll see the same trend, everyone has increased software sales over thieir previous gen console, except the PS3..

The PS2 was and still is the best selling and most successful console ever. It's hard to improve on that performance.

You're right, but it was launched in a perfect storm.. It launched 1.5 yrs ahead of its only competition the underpowered gamecube, which didnt include a DVD player.. it was till nearly 2 yrs later MS launched their first endeavor XB1 which while far superior was way late and had ramped up developer support.. i think the Wii will come close lifetime, but I thought the PS2 was better then the Will .. LOL

I know it's really off-topic but i am too anal-retentive to let this pass, Gamecube was NOT underpowered compared to the PS2

GCN had more Graphics horsepower then PS2 it lacked a DVD drive which made games have to be on multible discs that is it.

To be honest a console has to do well in America to thrive because gaming has sort of migrated to the west and this includes its growth in europe.. around 40% of worldwide PS2 sales were in America alone .. Just 8 months ago the 360 was behind the PS3 in EMEAA by over 500k units and is now in a virtual TIE in EMEAA thanks to XB 360 slim.. If sales hadn't gotten better for PS3 in Japan ( with the slim ) the PS3 would be down 10 million worldwide once you factor in America..

I dont think the PS3 is dead by far, but I do beleive it will finish in 3rd place.. Xbox Live is honestly a better service then PSN.  Yes PSN is free, but thats why some people use matches and others pay for a lighter.  When I played COD MW2 on my brothers PSN i was a bit surprised at the longer wait times and more laggy gameplay on PSN.  MS charges for Xbox Live, but some of that money goes to pay for more servers which makes gameplay better online.. I loved the PS2 by the way.  Im not a blind kind of fanboy.  I think PS2 sort of had the perfect storm.. they launched 1.5 yrs before the underpowered Gamecube and nearly 2yrs before M$'s first console endeavor XB1 ..

Sony and both MS have hinted their next console will come out around late 2012-2013 ( this is nearing ten yrs  as well ) and things like Kinect and Move are around now to try and keep the next 3 years fresh ..

I think Move is very 'slightly' helping console PS3 sales now, but im not convinced Kinect or Move will have a big impact overall.. I beleive both will do LIFETIME of around 5 million tops.. People already own consoles and you'll see the biggest interest in these products their first few months..  The original PlayStation gang is grown up and some of them who still game might buy Move, but kids now play FPS's .. there's a reason why COD MW is PS3's best seller..

Lol. That's not true. That's your misinformed opinion. I have been playing online multiplayer on PSN for over  a year now. Also have an Xbox and played  lots of Rainbow Six on XBL. Lag happens in both networks from time to time. Oftentimes particular games will have lag. Depends upon who you are playing with, what ping rates they have etc. Bottomline: never found any evidence of higher lag in PSN. You are just saying something you like to believe. Here's something that needs no proof: I never paid a dime for a year of multiplayer gaming bliss on PSN.

All I can say is I was there playing on PSN and yeah its usually worse an dyes the wait is usually longer when waiting for online play - but I guess that could be due to less people playing online on PSN, I.E.  COD MW2- 11.5 million on 360 versus 8 million on PS3 ...on other less selling titles the difference will hurt more when waiting for game setup..  Not to mention the lack of features on PSN..  ESPN hits XB Live in Nov.. when will PSN get it if they do ?  Netflix didnt hit PS3 till a year after XB Live and XB Live had it built in... PS3 had to use a Disc when they got it.. did they ever fix that ?

so for you XBL is better because is going to have a service that you didn't use yet and has Netflix witch is a SECOND (you do remember the HD-DVD add-on?) option by MS to deliver HD content to users and that is not available worldwide ? you r funny!

Also something to consider, the number of servers on PSN may not be proportionate to load in some cities.. so while it could be comparable in your area to Live, what about big cities like NYC where my brother lives? PSN is consistantly more laggy there then XB Live..

I live near NYC (50 miles) lag never was a problem for me. I think you admit yourself that longer wait times is due to less people buying the game and has nothing to do with PSN. Though let me tell you in my years of online MP with killzone 2 and bad company 2, wait times were never a problem. Killzone 2 has dedicated servers so u can just walk into any room. BFBC2 takes 30 seconds tops to find a game.

I don't care about ESPN on my gaming console, I have cable for that. Don't talk about the past, PSN has Netflix now for over a year. Ya and the fact that you mention using a disk for Netflix like it is some sorta bug is hilarious.

To summarize, PSN gives me everything as a hard core multiplayer oriented gamer without paying a dime.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Its fine that you prefer Live, just don't make up bullshit about lag and server count on PSN coz its clear you have no idea what you are talking about, no offence.

The x360s that are selling are replacements from the same userbase. The ps3 is robust and YLOD doesn't affect it much.

You have no data to back that up. Even if a large number of Xbox 360 owners traded in their old Xbox 360s for Slim ones theose trade in units get resold at bargin prices further increasing the user base. It's not like RROD sends Xbox 360s to the land fill, they get fixed or replaced for free so that doesn't decrease the user ase. It costs MS money, but it doesn't reduce the number of Xbox 360 owners any more than the PS3's YLOD.
