I'm kinda confused as to what this word means around here anymore, some people state something and then some idiot comes in and posts "god I'm so fed up with all the doom comments" despite nobody even mentioning the word doom up until that point.

So no console has ever been truly doomed according to a vast majority ever in this generation.

The peak of a majority thinking a console was doomed is actually in 2007 when PS3 sold LESS than the GBA in some months in America......many people on this site predicted PS3 would be off the market by 2009 at that point, including a popular predictor, John Lucas or something. 

In the same year 2007 you got a book written in Japan called, "why the PS3 failed"......and so on. The epic failure of LAIR and the "meh" sales of Heavenly Sword didn't help either.....not to mention games going multiplat left right and centre.

2007 PS3 was the closest any console this gen has gotten to be called "doomed" by many people of the press (Yahoo said it would get discontinued in that year I believe).

Now the word doomed is used too lightly......

To me, doomed means that the developer is in danger of leaving the industry or losing all support for their console before the end of its generation.

Examples include the Neo Geo, Dreamcast, Ngage, Turbo Express, or CD-i.

Regardless of original meaning it's been used so much it's turned into a way to poke fun at the ultra negative and serious comments some people come up with.  Some of the IP's, devs. or distributors like South Peak might still be doomed, domed, doooomed to failure and obscurity but the big 3 VG Cos. aren't going anywhere.

Without any examples, it's hard to answer your question, but I'm going to assume that doomed = going to fail.

So if people keep commenting in a thread about how something is going to fail or stop succeeding, it is "doomed." Then someone comes in the thread and says "what's with all the comments saying this is going to fail (is doomed)?"

But this was way too easy to explain. I'm either thinking you're trying to ask for a different answer, or this thread was just your way of attention grabbing.

doomed originally came up here on vgc back in 07 when the ps3 was having really bad sales, so many thought that it was doomed and sony would leave the gaming industry

it was also in the back of peoples minds when the wii was having very good sales some knew that what goes up must come down so they said wiis a fad, nintendos doomed after the fads up, and ect back in 07-09 and now it looks like those comments are coming back again

here on vgc doomed basically means that a console is having or will have low sales in the very near future

for example i.e.

i believe that next year both wii and 360 will be doomed b/c sonys SW line up will be the best it ever has been look at the games KZ3 infamous2 socom4 LP2 twisted metal LG The Agent R3 ect. ect.,there will be a new model, and a price cut. 360 and wii will also get a price cut but it wont have the same explosion effect that the ps3s will b/c the 360 and wii are already at $200 and had seen multiple deals already of $150 and even $99
