Forums - Sales - Bungie calling out numbers for Halo Reach, saying they are WAY off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Bungie's response aimed at Major Nelson's earlier report on Live activity, and NOT sales?

You are correct.  Something a few of us keep pointing out while the rest ignore it and continue to put their foot in their mouth.

I'm staying optimistic and assuming that the OP is asleep or away from the computer for a while for some other reason and not just ignoring those posts because it puts a giant hole in his theory about Reach being undertracked.

Maybe it should be bolded or something?

I did.  Bold, italic, underline and centered (my first post in this thread).  Granted it was about a different reason for why this is wrong but still it gets ignored.

Exactly, I'm not sure what this thread is all about? The response from Bungie has nothing to do with our figures for sales and doesn't prove or disprove anything with regards to VGChartz data.

Any reason to believe the sales might be different will be picked up instantly. People will grab all sorts of evidence and blow it out of context in order to prove their point.

Welcome to the internet ioi. ^_^

PS did you see the Sony USB thread yesterday? Same deal.

But can pirated copies play on xbox live?

As Bungies data seems to be about how many people were playing while logged into that right?

So if we look at their data it would indicated that Reach might have been undertracked here. Because if it did nearly x4 what Halo 3 did then how can their weekly numbers be the same? It is just a matter of time before Track/NPD etc all release the figures so i guess we will find out in a couple of weeks.

As for some peoples replies i think we might have some hypocrites in da house. Some are dissing Bungies stats and saying you can't trust company figures. But yet those same people diss VGC for not having the numbers Sony recently posted for console numbers. Can't have it both way's. And if i had to trust one company in the games business it would be Bungie without a doubt.

What are you talking about? I have yet to see anyone claim Bungies numbers are false. Stop trying to start trouble.

What people ARE saying ialo Reach outsold Halo 3 according to VGC, so that alone points to more sales than Halo, duh. People are then saying Live users may have increased which has nothing to do with sales but would increase UU for Halo Reach.

If the ratio of people who purchase dReach with a Gold account is greater than Halo 3 then in theory Reach could have actually sold less and these numbers still be accurate. Im not saying thats true, and no one is saying they dont believe Bungies numbers, theyre saying they dont agree with the OP extrapolation of said numbers to directly correspond with sales.

What "Same people" are claiming Bungies stats are false and also claimin gVGC should count Sonys shipped numbers? Really, im curious who those "same people" are, just starting trouble.

lol fail thread. many have already pointed this out , what they mentioned was aimed at Major Nelson's report

Some of the people questioning the numbers from Bungie are the same people who criticised this site for it's numbers at the last Sony numbers announcement. They may not have said it in exact words but you get the feeling from their posts they don't buy what Bungie have said.

How you read what i said and got to what you wrote is beyond me!

Bungies stats do not mean Reach had higher sales just more people playing it. As mentioned this is most likely due to the fact millions more consoles have been sold since Halo 3 and a lot of those will be on live. Until we get numbers from ndp/track etc we don't even need to talk about sales.

The point i made which obviously went over your head  is that you can't do the whole "But it is from a company release, it must be true!" thing, then when another does it question their data. It isn't about sales it is about having the same level playing field. If Bungie say they have xyz data then believe them. They are not the type of company to put a spin on it. They even admit first weeks numbers were below MW2 but say 2nd week it is ahead of it.  That to me is an interesting comment as indicates there are now more people playing Reach then MW2 (on 360). That is pretty impressive considering one has sold 11m and one has sold 3m.

So as for trying to start trouble, jeez do give over. It's friday, go out have some fun. Don't take the forum so serious...

this is the same as PS3 fanboys claiming the World Wide 360/PS3 hardware gap is actually 3 million, not 5.6 million!!!

it has nothing to do with it! first thing it was from a fiscal report from sony and it was 3.6, also the gap is higher now. 2nd thing sony give actual proof, while this isnt.

i dont know why this user is claiming that sales of reach are undertracked, i myself expected more then 3 million in the us but 3 million is very good, ofcourse vg isnt 100% correct but you cant know if something is undertracked by looking at gaming hours.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

You say its not about sales and in your post say these UU numbers can mean its undertracked Ive bolded it for easy reference to show that even in the same thread within a dozen posts you contradict yourself and your rationale. Are you purposfully being obtuse and aloof to what this thread is about?

Still i have yet to see people question Bungies numbers in relation to what Bungie is actually reporting on. No one is denying UU has increased, what we are saying to the OP is that you cant extrapolate that to increased sales of software.Thats the point of the thread, i honestly am in awe at your two posts because i really dont understand what youre getting at here, it seems to me you took a completely legit criticism of extrapolating sales like the OP is trying to do based on UU and tried to stretch it into a jab at PS3 owners for no reason and it looked silly since none of the discussion up to this point has involved the PS3, Sony or users commenting on shipment figures.

You call out the "same people" yet no one here is questioning any of bungies numbers because they arent sales, theyre UU. I think if youre going to try to start a flame war and drop comments like "the same people who want Sony shipped figures counted are denying internal numbers from Bungie" You better be able to back it up.

But holding a user accountable on an internet community and calling you out for vague, unsubstantiated claims to try to start trouble only causes you to attempt to insult my social life, which clearly means ive struck a nerve. Take care.
