Pokemon: It's serious business.

For me I can spend 200 hours on one version to create my favorite teams of Pokemon then go catch them all in a legit fashion lol was proud to get all 150 in a legit fashion, had to gameshark for Mew but in contrast I raised it from level 3 so it still felt legit (since it was given away to begin with)

It's easily the most hardcore RPG I've played, even though it's hidden under a simplistic battle system

Any franchise belonging to a hardcore genre is probubly a hardcore game. Casual genre's include party games, cooking games , fitness games , motherhood games. Other genre's like Fishing and Hunting also can be considered casual as it isn't hardcore gamers that usually purchase them.

In my opinion if its an FPS, RTS, RPG , 3rd Person shooter , Platformer , action , adventure or pretty much any genre played mainly by hardcore gamers then they are a hardcore game.

In this very thread someone said kiddy games aren't really hardcore, but they are think was Looney Tunes hardcore when you were a kid gamer or how about Taz, they were hardcore games for children. Or how about the notion that cheaply made games are casual, are they really or are they just cheaply made hardcore games?
