Forums - Sales - Worldwide UP - 11th September 2010

Metroid Other M doing decently, but just as I expected, the game will struggle just to reach a million. Most Nintendo fans, especially the expanded audience, do not want a cinematic Metroid game.

The sales are roughly how I expect them to unfold for the greater part of next year, and until the next gen of consoles (except with the 360 and Wii sales flipped). Wii of course will recieve a huge boost from the holiday season, Wii Party, Epic Mickey, Goldeneye, DKC, etc, and 360 will recieve a Halo: Reach and Kinect boost, and PS3 will get a GT5 boost somewhat. But after all this, in the slow months next year, sales between all 3 should remain close like this.

Total - 19K (5 times more than FF12 in the same amount of weeks after launch....showing great legs compared to that!)

Excellent....7 Million is in the bag at this rate!

Amazon was selling FFXIII for 20$ thats the reason for the small bump, 20 bucks!

only the PS3 version though

If you don't believe DKC will move consoles due  NSMB already representing then I guess reach won't move 360's. But of course it will

You said that, not me. NSMBW sold console because it is a 15 m seller, it was obvious even with a lot of Mario games (and a 3D Mario) on Wii! But DK? Will reach 8m in the best case, with about 80m Wiis around and many other games which appeal to the same audience. It'll push Wii's sales for some weeks but that's it, no new 2008, Wii Party, DK and Kirby will have less influence than NSMBW price cut, that's sure.

And Halo Reach will move console because it is gonna selling 4 m FW on a userbase of 40m, plus it had a limited bundle which is sold out. DK won't have it, it's Nintendo. I think on the 29th there'll be something regarding Wii, hopefully something big, which is not a Nintendo game; that wouln't work for hardware.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Can't wait for next week numbers!

And Mass Effect 2 crossed 2 million this week!

Not really WOW sales, the PS3 is really struggling

Wii, free fall

Xbox, maintaining decent sales, after the horrible 2009 holiday and first half of the year Microsoft had, that's great for them

Expect Wii to get crazy sales at the beginning of October, with Wii Party, Kirby, then Just Dance and Donkey Kong Country

Crazy sales?  I really dont expect that at all.   Which of those games is going to bring a NEW audience at massive rates over and above current adoption rates?  Why will those games push hardware?

The same reason GT5 will push PS3s and Halo: Reach will push Xbox 360s... They are huge titles that will get a lot of sales.

DKC could very well sell 10 million, Wii Party could sell 15-20 million. Just Dance will probably move 4-5 million. Kirby will sell 2-3 million. Games that sell these kinds of numbers generally push hardware at least to some extent, this should be common knowledge.

I don't get why everybody raves about Reach and GT5 pushing HD consoles then act like somehow Wii is impervious to hardware movers..

Plus, the holiday season usually favors Nintendo the most, from all the parents buying their kids the kid friendliest console. While I don't expect the crazy sales to come as early as beginning of October, I do expect a ton of crow eating come early November.

Apparently some gamers bought an SNES for DKC over mario, it moved consoles and it will do it again.IMHO

So will Wii party.  I think there will be a few  disappointed people on this site when it happens.

It is OK to look at past sales to predict future results. And it is happening at Christmas wii will be huge

Not last Christmas but in the ballpark

People absolutely underestimate Donkey Kong. This game sold faster than Mario around its release. It just didn't sell in even bigger numbers because they announced a sequel only months later.

Donkey Kong was the biggest hardware mover in the late SNES days. You guys probably thought Mario wouldn't sell consoles either, huh?

I will say it again there was not a single game to move hardware for the Wii this year. the only million seller was Mario Galaxy 2 and that obviously didn't move many consoles. Starting October these games will release weekly.

Now saying Donkey Kong isn't going to move consoles because Mario is also a platformer is just stupid. There was a time when most games where 2D platformers and people still bought consoles

Well, we'll see

Well said.

I kept trying to say the bold, but noone believed me. Though few people believed me when I said NSMB Wii would reignite hardware, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Wii had NO hardware movers this entire year. None. ZERO. This will begin to change starting with Kirby, and will be fully realized with Donkey Kong.

I always laugh when people say DKC won't move consoles because Wii already have a big 2D platformer. Well I guess Halo: Reach is screwed then since the 360 already has FPS!

DKC was probably the most successful franchise on the Super NES after Mario and propelled it over the Genesis. The fact that people are totally undermining its potential on Wii is pretty baffling to me.

Next weeks sales should be pretty epic.

Because we are talking them bumping the console a couple of hundred thousand. That isnt enough to change the trajectory.  As someone else said in a couple of weeks the Halo Reach bump will be basically over.

A good quality lineup with additions throughout the year maintains sales.  It also gets back to last year.  Wii sales jumped when the price dropped, but the Nintendo fans say it was because of NSMBWii which came nearly 2 months later.  If Nintendo doesnt drop the price this year you will see.  And what you will see will be pretty standard climb to holiday levels in November and December.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

For the record guys, I spoke to Brett a few days ago about Move, and he doesn't really expect it to move any systems - at least not initially. I was just in a few places myself and the thing doesn't seem to have any promotion at all, although that may be because I'm a strong area for Nintendo / Microsoft (Sony shelf space is always pretty low where I am - Walmart has ten shelves for Video Game SW where I am, 3 for Wii, 2 for DS, 3 for X360, 1 for PS3, one for PSP & PS2 combined).
