The reason an individual atheist is less likely to commit a crime is because of the statistics taken from the group. It is not however down to beliefs, merely demographics. Atheists are less likely to commit a crime because generally they are quite highly educated and have a fairly high income, it isn't their belief that makes them less likely to commit a crime.

Also your argument is classic 'no true Scotsman'.

Just like an individual atheist is less likely to comitt a crime, there is also an individual christian or muslim or jew that is less likely to comitt a crime. Simple. But none of the both WHOLE groups of people are less likely to comitt a crime than the other.

Statistically fewer atheists commit crimes. That is atheists as a group.

I really fail to see what you are arguing here. I'm not trying to argue that all atheists are good people or anything, I'm merely saying that statistics show that fewer atheists commit crimes than religious people. This would seem to indicate to me at least that atheists do not have fewer morals than religious people.

Atheists as a group on which the statistic was done? Yes. Atheists as a group from all around the wolrd together? No

I was talking atheists in the Western world here. I do not have statistics on Atheists in other parts of the world.

I'm double posting on purpose in the vain hope that it will finally stop saying that somebody has just quoted me.

Edit: Damnit. This glitch is annoying me

Atheists' morality comes from logic and sense. Atheists and Agnostics don't need to be told that murder, rape and theft are wrong to know it.

No this statistic was done on the proportion of atheists in jail in the United States as opposed to the general population.

Which still proves my point, if you really want to narrow it down it proves that Atheists in the United States have morals.

Hopefully this will end this particular argument. If this doesn't end here, it will be absolutely clear that Pizzahut does not understand statistics and has been pulling his complaints straight out of his rump.

Statistics don't have to survey EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the population to be accurate.

This doesn't really mean much since our court system badly corrupt .. thus immoral itself. There is a lot of people that should be in prison now yet they have the power /money to "buy" their justice. OJ would have gotten away with killing his  ex-wife if he just behaved himself and he had a blood trail from the murder site to his house.

I'm not saying atheist doesn't have morals yet I doubt if our court does.

Pizzahut you are down to arguing that the statistics are non-representative, and I ask you for your justification for making that claim.

Also, are you really trying to suggest that the justice system is biased to convict fewer atheists than religious people compared to the number that commit crimes?

I never once denied that. I was just saying that that statistic doesnt rise atheists above the others or vice versa.

And btw, just because someone is not an atheist doesnt mean he or she believes in God of any kind. Ever heard of agnostics?
