The only reason heavy rain sold as much as it did was because of the heavy support sony gave it Take that away and the next game won't be nearly as succesful. Not to mention the loss of interest going multi would bring overall.
Time for hype

God I hate how senationlized/lionized multi-plat games are this generation.People act like its damn crime against humanity to make an exclusive game.Am I supposed to shead tears because 360 only owners can't play Uncharted and PS3 only heads can't play Halo? Boo-fucking-hoo. As a PS3/360 owner I want both consoles to have as many exclusives as they can...I want UNIQUE experinces from my consoles.Everything going mutiplatform takes away all the fun from being a multi-console owner. Its become fucking annoying hearing people say they want EVERYTHING to be muti-plat...Every damn franchise,Developer,etc...LET THESE CONSOLES HAVE A DAMN IDENTITY. But the truth of the matter is this...Alot of these people are one console owners and they simply want the games they are missing out on on other consoles and could really give a rats ass about what other people are "missing out on".They hind behing talking points like "You shouldn't limit your audience" and "yay more games for everyone" and "Its good that more people get to play this" and other lame gamer-hippie talk which they really don't mean. |
I agree with this completely. Going multiplatform is a bad thing.
Time for hype
Expand it where? Doesn't Cage realize he's got at least 90% of the Market his products (Heavy Rain style) need? There just ISN'T any other market outside the PS3. He may try to create it, but it will be too hard, more expensive and it won't have the strong support the Sony house gave him.
He shouldn't be rash after the success of Heavy Rain. Hopefully he understands the success of his title. It was not just his genius. Sony had a big part in it. The PS3 audience had a even bigger part. Of course the PS3 audience will still be there for his next title (as long as he doesn't spoil things), but Sony won't. It's doubtful QD will find a publisher as commited as SCE. SCE supported them from the start, believed in their unorthodox project, and they even gave them a worlwide release, that's right, Heavy Rain hit Japan, and I think before it released anywhere else! And let's not talk about marketing and retail distribution, advertising. Heavy Rain got it all from Sony.
QD will need to ask themselves: is it worth ditching Sony to pursue (discover) if there's an audience for our game outside of PS3?
I would tell Mr. Cage : No, it's not.
IMO, this is a bad move from David...
Without Sony, Heavy Rain wouldn't have sold more than Dante's Inferno, just because the hype that a Sony exclusive receives and the awesome advertising Sony had for HR... Let's face it, no one expected Heavy Rain to sell THIS much...1.5M for a new IP that is not even a "Game" it's insane this days...
but without a doubt i'm looking forward to see what they can do with Kinect!
I'm Back! - Proud owner of the best doomed handheld of all time!
So, Heavy Rain had what? 16GB ? 18GB ? if he goes multiplat he will have to get used to much smaller dimensions. Maybe change the name to "Quantity Dreams"
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Great news! David Cage needs to come to the Xbox 360.
And I'm tired of us giving them all our exclusives and never getting any back.

I sure hope this isn't a serious post. What did Sony get for Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4, Tekken 6 etc, etc....? End of the day, Microsoft didn't give Sony anything, and vice versa. 3rd Party companies are chasing the cash. I hope David Cage chooses to remain exclusive based around the quality of the game, versus the extra $$$. Then again, going multi doesn't always guarantee that anyway. |
You can increase quality with extra $$$ though.
And Xbox lost many more xclsives to PS3 than the other way around in this gen (Bioshoxck, Elder Scrolls, that Ninja game (forgot its name), Mass Effect, GTA4 DLC, Dead Rising etc etc).

End of the day, Sony lost far more meaningful exclusive titles, but that's besides my point. If you really want to play David Cage titles, at this point, you're going to need to pick up a PS3. Why sit around twiddling your thumbs hoping for a mulitplat deal? And remember one key difference to Sony losing exclusive titles and Microsoft - Sony didn't chase after those mentioned titles, but Microsoft did chase after Sony's. |
I can play Cage titles with my future PS3 yes, but I'm a Xbox fanboy so I want all games to be available on the X360.
Yes but MS chased those titles because they came into the console business much later than Sony. Had MS came in first and dominated it then Sony would have been the chaser.

this pretty much sums up the entire gen

Where was this attitude during previous generations? Where was the outcry about everything should be multi-plat during the PS1/PS2 generations when sony was getting a ton of exclusives. The difference between this generation and the two previous generations is that you don't have one incredibly dominant console like the PS2 was. The thing about the PS3 and 360 is that they are very similar, and so there is little reason to not make a game multiplatform and maybe double your profits. Move and Kinect are the first features to really distinguish the two consoles from eachother from a developer perspective.
And if I like a game, why wouldn't I want as many people to play it as possible? Why wouldn't I want the developer to earn more money? If there isn't any artistic reason to make the game an exclusive, then why do it? Economy is one reason of course, but that's the only sensible one.
