no im not, but how can we know if people are hyped if its not from forums, gaming sites, and articles by people like gamespot or ign. people never predicted the sucess of the wii, the only hype we can know off is the one in forums, gaming sites, and from surveys.

also when talking about the media, also when bbc comes and hails kinect does that indicate hype?

It's one of the best indicators we have. It's called mass media for a reason after all.

so when gaming websites say positive things about move its hype? and when gaming websites say negative things about kinect does that indicate their isnt hype?

ign and gamespot are still the media, well the gaming media.

also do casuals have hype?

Casuals have hype, otherwise the Wii wouldn't have been so hard to find in shops in its first years on the market.

IGN and GameSpot are not the media, they are just media, and they are so for a niche audience. Mass media like nation wide TV channels and what have you are a in a different league, because it's something almost everyone sees. Any media can change people's opinions and what they might be hyped for, but the mass media has a much, much larger audience than sites like IGN and GameSpot.

true.

i still dont think that we cant know weather casuals have hype or not! i will live in denial!

and the wii didnt have hype, did the casuals want to buy it before it released? no it didnt, when they launched they had interest, hype is interest before a certain item releases.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Around the Network

I hope it does well =D

By that definition, I don't know if there was hype with the casuals over the Wii. It did sell pretty damn well when it released though, but whether that was the core audience or the expanded audience, I don't know.

i do want to get the move but like many people ill wait until an awesome game like sorcery. maybe black friday where i can pick it up along with heavy rain

The reason I'm getting it, is because I DON'T have a wii so it would fit my casual needs

I'd say, if I may, that hype for the Wii in general wasn't huge, but that it did sell well initially to the Nintendo fans who'd stuck with them during Gamecube, etc.

It did, however, garner very quick word of mouth and it did very quickly become a media sensation of sorts, entering the popular Zeitgeist as something you simply had to try.  So it wasn't hype in advance so much as a very quick reaction to what it offered that generated post launch interest and had everyone's granny buying one.

I believe it was this latter that drove the Wii to explode quickly in popularity (older people in nursing homes playing it with big grins helped too) and see the terrific sales it did, showing more rapid growth than PS2.

I do get the feeling the interest has wanned a bit more recently, with a lack of anything much to feed that more general interest and leaving the console to fall back more on core Nintendo titles, and that's where, if the reaction is strong enough, the PS3 with Move (and of course 360 with Kinect) may be able to garner more serious general interest as the next cool thing and the successor (if you will) to the experience initially pioneered by the Wii.

I think how the Wii performs this holidays vs Move and Kinect will give a good picture of where relative interest lies outside core gamers and whether Sony and MS can seriously swing potential Wii purchasers away from the console.

I still dont think the move will succeed. There is really no hype for it at all...

and their is hype for kinect?

In london, most news media are hailing Kinect as the 2nd coming of gaming so...yeah...kinda.

What media is this?  I live in London and have seen very little for Kinect or Move in general - i.e. non-gaming - media.  So far most stuff I've seen has been gaming media specific or the odd bit in a store.  Maybe I'm not watching enough TV...

BBC Radio 1 and 5live have both done features on why Kinect will be filled with win, note this was during E3 2010 where the Move was mentioned in passing, last ps3 news that got covered on Radio 1 was Geohot's supposed hack and the Apocalyps3 for a point of reference.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Picking up the controller won't sell it, compelling software will and right now it has none.. Sure there is some on the horizon but right now it's a pretty crappy lineup

This and also due to the fact that people have to become aquainted with the controller. Remember with the Wii, it was word-to-mouth. Move will catch on slowly, but it's still at 0 worldwide compared to that 73.7 million worldwide with the Wii as the Wii-mote is packed in with every console. Believe me, Move is much more different than the Wii-mote, but right now the games are the only Wii-too (party/multiplayer/demo). Once the software rolls along the Move controller WILL be different as it will cater to a different crowd.

I don't know Heavy Rain, Resident Evil 5, Flower, High Velocity Bowling, MAG, Eye Pet, Sports Champions, Tiger Woods Golf, Aragorn's Request and Toy Story 3 sounds like a pretty good, diverse line up of launch titles if you ask me. I don't think Software is one of Sony's problems.

Well, that's what I mean, for a more casual audience, that's hardly blanket media coverage.  The Wii got featured on all major TV news shows in UK, for example.  E3 coverage isn't going to achieve that, even if it's via channels like BBC Radio 1.

I'd say right now, the general population of Kinect / Move - the population who would have to buy into them to get them anywhere near the Wii - have very little visibility or awareness of either at this point.  I do think in US Kinect, via smart marketing agreements and approaches from MS, has had more coverage by general media, but in UK it really doesn't seem remotely on that level to me.
