A quick check on data from my end agrees with the data in his links. If you're going to refute it, then do as he's done, and provide links and reasoning as to why you disagree. (This goes for everyone bitching about things.) Thus far, the argument for Kinect outselling Move has been made much stronger than vice versa. If you don't like that, fix it! Give me the links and data that counters it! Don't just tell me to search for it; doing that is what led me to find what I did.

I did refute it. Go check pre order charts of major retailers. What did you check exactly? Amazon? Toys r us? Gamestop? What exactly did you check? HE made the statement, so he should back it up with some proper new data not months old crap. Fact of the matter is no, Kinect is NOT destroying Move in pre order charts available. That's just a bs statement he came up with which he used some random opinion pieces that is based on old data when if you check the same data sources now show a different picture. I patiently asked him to go re-check sources for this. He is just not being mature enough to accept he jumped the gun.

To anyone who is gonna bitch about it afterwords also, go check the major online retailers who actually have preorder cahrts and such (which is the ONLY way we can at least get an idea as of now), kinect is by no means not destroying Move in almost any of them. Do a proper search before bitching and moaning about this again. I'm not gonna bother coming back into this thread cuz some people should be able to use common sense to tackle something so simple, if they lack that I can't help it. I' done.

I actually checked them via the Amazon network, using it properly. Merely looking at the bestsellers for Amazon alone is useless; that updates hourly with a very limited window of sales. What I did pull up was the "bestseller archives", and set it to all of 2010, so as to not get a skewed idea from the closer preorders of Move's release. What I am seeing is that neither are really lighting charts on fire. Here's the breakdown:

Amazon US: Kinect at #96 for the year, no items for Move ranked in top 100 (list cut-off).

Amazon JP, DE, UK, and FR: Neither with any results in the top 100.

With Amazon JP being Sony's best advantage market, I pulled up the month of August there. And got: Move bundle at #85 (and some recharging stand at #92), Navigation controller at #59. No mention of Kinect.

On the flipside, the US, MS's strongest market, has the following for August: Kinect at #62, Move at #72, Navigation at #86, and the bundle at #94. So why do I say neither is lighting up the charts? #68 was the PS2 console.

Europe seems to be scattered; coming up with a consensus there is more than I have time for right now. But with how close Move is to releasing, it really should be ahead. If someone can remind me, I'd like to look at the numbers again when Kinect is close to release.

Good idea, even if it is just one source.  Checking UK archieves for August, Move is just ahead of Kinect, which kind of makes sense as the release of the 360s saw a big jump in Kinect interest which would be registering in August, however Move is closer so it should be a bit higher.  Rather oddly, the sub-controller was ranking higher than the main Move controller, which I find odd.

For september (so far) Move has shot up to the 20 mark (when I checked) with Kinect down at 69, which again makes sense as Kinect demand should be waning during September with another surge closer to release while September should be showing the surge for Move.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Calm down people, no need to take it so seriously! It is just a facebook survey for christ sake. I remember they did one of those just before the election here and it had liberal democrats winning by 2 points and having their best election ever. When it actually got to the voting they came 3rd and actually lost seats......

Point being most people on facebook click stuff without the intention of actually following it through.

That's a really good point that seems to have been lost in the fray.

Retailers: PlayStation Move will outsell Xbox Kinect

Based on customer feedback, Kinect will lose the motion control war against the Move, according to a video games retailer and a games distributor

The Kinect on show.

Sony’s PlayStation Move has been tipped to be a more popular motion control device than Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, according to a national video games retailer and a games distributor.

Sony and Microsoft have both invested in a new motion control device to take on the casual gaming market dominated by the Nintendo Wii console. The Move uses motion-sensing gaming controllers that resemble the Wii-Motes while Kinect takes a different approach with a peripheral that detects body movement without a controller.

Move will debut this month while the Kinect is slated for a November release.

National video games retailer, Gametraders, said that, based on feedback from its 35 stores across Australia, the Move will be more coveted than the Kinect.

“We ran a Facebook survey three weeks ago and it came back with some interesting results,” Gametraders national marketing manager, Rob Jenkins, said. “Generally, the Facebook fans on our page are hardcore gamers and they are saying they don’t like either of the two because real gamers use controllers.

“But based on store feedback, the Move is going to be bigger than the Kinect.”

Move has worked better in media demonstrations and is more similar to the popular Wii motion controller, which is already widely accepted, according to Jenkins.

“I think the Kinect is a bit clunky and I don’t think it will work properly so I think the Move will have a better initial push and will be received better,” he said.

The PlayStation 3 being a newer and – what many consider - more robust system also doesn’t help the case for the Kinect, with more multimedia features such as a Blu-Ray player, Jenkins said.

“I could be wrong, but in some people’s eyes, the 360 is seen as an older technology in some ways,” he said. “We are finding the PlayStation 3 is starting to pick up in sales because Blu-Rays are cheaper and more accepted now.

“I think there is almost this psychological feel the PlayStation 3 is newer technology and I think that is part of [why the Move will be more popular].”

Games distributor, AFA Interactive, shares the same opinion. It sub-distributes for Sony and has an indirect distribution arrangement with Microsoft.

AFA will be distributing the Move and the Kinect to its network of 500 independent retailers.

“The feeling we are getting from a lot of our customers is the Move will be more successful than the Kinect,” AFA product and marketing manager, Karl Vosgerau, said.

There are obvious similarities between the Move and the Wii, but the enhanced graphics on the PlayStation 3 will be a drawcard, he said.

“With the Move, it’s kind of like the Wii controls but it will be much more realistic and responsive whereas the Kinect is completely driven by your body,” he said. “We get the feeling that – from what we’re told – it sounds like this can really limit what the possibilities are [for gameplay].”

Compounding matters is the price. Vosgerau cited the Kinect being more expensive than the Move as a key issue. The Kinect will retail for $199 while the Move Starter pack will sell for $99.95, albeit the latter requires the purchase of additional equipment with certain games.

Gametraders and AFA have both noticed rising sales for the PlayStation 3.

“Over the past year, if a game is coming out on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 comes out as the stronger platform,” Vosgerau said. “That was different from when I started here four years ago when the PlayStation 3 just came out where you would sell more games on the Xbox 360. Now it’s the other way around.”

While the Wii is still experiencing strong sales, Jenkins said the reality is the console doesn’t drive software sales as Wii owners tend to stick with a select number of games. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are the traditional software drivers.

“We’ve put big [hopes] on the Move because we think it will stimulate some hardware sales and probably some software sales,” Jenkins said.

Consumer electronics chain store, JB Hi-Fi, had a different take on the Move versus Kinect battle.

JB Hi-Fi CEO, Terry Smart, was optimistic the two devices are going to have an impact on the gaming market and said it was hard to pick a possible winner.

“However, the Kinect is significantly different in the sense it doesn’t require a controller and is motion activated by sensing body movements,” he said. “So it’s definitely the biggest difference or change in gaming that is coming along.”

Smart dismissed the notion the Kinect’s unique control system will deter consumers from buying the product.

“Australians love new technology and are extremely good at adopting the latest products and will therefore be drawn to the Kinect,” he said. “Having said that, there is an established base of PlayStation 3 users that will want to upgrade.

“If I was to put a bet down, I would say the Kinect [will win] for its uniqueness and will do extremely well.”

Only a few retailers were asked!

It seems they are confident in PS Move!!

Anything is possible, but it helps to sell more peripherals for any console when you have more consoles and 360 is ahead.  Using the VG Chartz software tool ( go to software totals - use 1000 games per page to see all games and then do each console ) you can see the same has held true with software:  More consoles = more games sold, not to mention when looking at gaming software sold that you can't help wonder that some bought PS3 more for Bluray then gaming.  Despite the PS3 having a good software year in 2010 ( although Halo Reach isn't out yet ) the 360 has outsold the PS3 in number of games buy a WHOPPING 150 million over the Life of both consoles;  and they have about 140 more game titles on the 360 as well..

In the end I don't think Kinect has any less chance of being a success them PS Move.  And I'm not convinced either will have a huge impact.  I beleive these are stepping stones to something better on next gen consoles.  Think about it.  Its not likely people are completely ready for this transition in which support isn't going to be perfect.  It'll probably be a little clunk'ity control wise.  One reason being both the PS3 and Xbox 360 house more of the 'hardcore' gaming community then the Wii.  People probably won't want to play anything like Modern Warfare with a motion sensor.. which could be fun in some games, but probably not as precise.. Not to mention teens sitting down drinking Mountain Dew and eating chips won't be doing the wii thing !

Anyone can argue, yeah I will use the motion control..etc.. but lets see what the masses do.. its the masses who decide the fate of anything .. not the few of us who have major epinions and often get suprised when what we feel doesnt happen.

So i read the title and then find out that this is Australia. Don't post shit like this when its only one country, its not relevant. That said, everywhere outside of USA move should be hotter atm, since its here in like 2 weeks? Wheres Kinect is far out still.

No one can really argue with you.  No one country decides the fate of any console more then America.  Almost half of all Wii's sold worldwide, nearly 40% of all PS3's sold worldwide , and more then 50% of all 360's sold worldwide are sold in America !!  That being said, 360 'might' have an advantage since there are 10 million more 360 owners then PS3 in America..

I honestly don't feel either Kinect or Move will be that huge, but im ok if Im proven wrong.  I just don't feel the technology is ripe enough and I doubt hardcore gamers want this for Modern Warfare ( or Halo in example ) while talking on the cell phone, eating chips, drinking cola...

Move is half the price of Kinect and since when was Australia the world?
