Samsung Claims 3D Victory—Has 88% of US 3D TV Sales

Despite worrying rumblings that we're already seeing the latest 3D trend explode amid consumer apathy for the current things-poking-out-of-the-screen gimmick, Samsung is remaining upbeat—thanks to taking an 88% share of recent US sales of 3D TVs.

Claiming to have shifted one million sets in the space of six months, Samsung says its aggressive early launch plans saw it take that 88.3% share of the US market for 3D TVs between March and July of 2010. Globally, Samsung says it'll sell around 3.4 million 3D sets this year—and the US will account for a massive 66% of global demand for its 3D screens. While the novelty remains. [Samsung]

You know, i too remember reading somewhere that Sony was spearheading the 3D movement... odd.

I would like the see the woman in 3D too.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well with Toshiba and Sony both working on glasses free 3D TV sets they are probably rather glad that Samsung has most of the glasses required market. Might be just about the shortest entertainment technology cycle ever if the glasses free tech comes around soon.

Its no big secret that Samsung are raping Sony on the TV market. 3D is too young and way too expensive yet though, at least for me.

You did not just spin that into Sony's advantage.

Most Impressive

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It's so early for the tech yet, I'm not sure if having such a big share of the opening units will mean much down the road. Still, impressive for Samsung.

well samsung released half a year earlier than its competition.. so its like saying XBOX 360 has 90% of the gaming market in DEC 2006 over the WII and PS3
