So they're going to move from less than 10% of the market to over 50% in three months?

Um... no.

they dont have to get to 50% as long as they have the biggest share.

also its possible, they JUST started advertising(this week) and they just got stock in many countries, also they started making offers this week.

When Samsung is claiming that they have nearly 90% of the market, Sony is going to have to pull nearly 50% of the market to "win".

And with Samsung coming in way under Sony at almost every price point I've checked, that just isn't going to happen.

So they sold 1m 3dtv sets in 6 months.... I wonder how many non-3dtv's they sold in that period...

I still think glasses required 3DTV will bomb ultimately.

Glassless is the way forward and I think Samsung will lead that too.

Samsung have cash to burn, they are huge... their revenue is 30% more than Sony and Panasonic for example and thier profits last year were massive whilst Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG & Hitachi really struggled.

Samsung are probably the biggest consumer electronics company on the planet right now.  Their assets arent quite at Sony levels, not that it matters,  but by every other measure they are leaving them, and most others, for dead.

Yea Samsung are the biggest consumer electronics company.

Off-topic - I love my new Sony Bravia though, I was getting bored on Samsung LCD's in my house, it needed a change!

Have you/Are you getting a 3DTV? I can remember you considering it.

Furhtermore, here in canada...the cheapest Sony 3D TV over 50 inches is more expensive than any Samsung model available.

3D is all about going big and you can have a 50 inch samsung plasma, with glasses and bluray player for free for 1700 dollars. Thats almost mass market price for a TV that size...

Since sony doesn't make plasmas, they can not make large displays as cheap. Their cheapest 3D TV over  inches is 4500 dollars for a  52 inch LED which is still 1000 bucks more than the Samsung 52 inch LED.

There is no way Sony is capturing any marketshare at these prices in NA.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I just found my GF a 32" Samsung 720p LCD for $350 shipped. Uh, WHAT?!? That's virtually nothing. I bought myself a 27" LCD monitor for $300 shipped. It's "only" 1920x1080 resolution but that doesn't bother me one bit for the price considering everyone else was STARTING at $800 for 27" monitors over 1080p resolution.

Samsung is just kicking everyone else's ass around the block and they still manage to rake in money while doing so. That's all there is to it.

PS. You can find competition near those price points but they don't offer 2ms response and 80,000:1 contrast ratios like Samsung's units. The specs are appalling. At pretty much any price point, it goes:

Samsung>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everyone Else

LOL thats my Sammy 3D TV except its smaller.

Well with Toshiba and Sony both working on glasses free 3D TV sets they are probably rather glad that Samsung has most of the glasses required market. Might be just about the shortest entertainment technology cycle ever if the glasses free tech comes around soon.

You did not just spin that into Sony's advantage.

Oh please, it wasn't even difficult. After spending the past 3 years trying to spin last place into looking like it's first place, spinning Samsung's 88% into a positive for Sony doesn't even break a sweat.

Here's another spin in favour of Sony for you: High Def 3D TV's makes Blu-ray an absolute necessity, so every 3D TV Samsung sells to expand the 3D market means more money for Sony in Blu-ray royalties.

Even better: if Toshiba are first to release glasses free 3D TVs Sony will still be laughing, because it was Toshiba that lost the disc format war this time 'round, but now they're making a TV that will help to boost the disc format they lost to.

I'm sure there's more that can be spun Sony's way.
