Forums - Nintendo - Starting to doubt Wii

MegaDrive08 said:

I got my Wii at launch November 2006, now its 2010 nearly 2011 and im now starting to doubt it, i was looking foward to Metroid other M until the reviews started coming out, and i dont like the idea of playing with just the Wiimote i like playing with the Wiimote and Nunchuk and it also sounds like the games not very long and loads of long cut scenes :(

Ive only had enjoyment out of a few games, the Pro Evolution Soccer series, Madworld and Mario Kart, i Mainly play games downloaded off of VC.

It seems everytime i get a game it doesnt end up been as great as i thought it would be, Monster Hunter 3 looks nice but wasnt for me, The Conduit was a big let down, the other games im was looking forward to was Trackmania, Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey and was looking at goldeneye but not sure.

Might now see what Nintendo has in store for the next home console, right now im a stressed out gamer

I never really was excited about Other M to begin with. Just seems like a weird concept for a game; a cinematic heavy 2D siderscroller that only uses the Wiiremote, despite sections of having to aim in 3D. I haven't played much on Wii in the last couple of years either to be honest besides Galaxy 2 and Monster Hunter Tri. I do still play Mario Kart and NSMB from time to time, those are always fun.

And of course there is the big one coming out soon, Donkey Kong Country! Between that, Goldeneye, Kirby, and Epic Mickey, this holiday looks to be the best since launch. Then there is Zelda in early 2011. But yeah right now I'm more excited about 3DS, and am looking forward to hearing some info about Nintendo's next console.

Is there anyone besides me here that really likes the Wii, its first party offer and that doesn't take video games seriously?

Ding ding ding!

@op

Honestly i can say that having a wii alone for you might not be enough. I know i enjoy my PS3/Wii. For wii i'm in love with nintendo titles(DK, mario, zelda, SSBB etc...) and have enjoyed the 3rd party offerings so far(NMH, MH3, etc...). However as to you thats not enough for me, for i  need my uncharted 2, FF, GT, GTA's, Fifa and etc... However unlike most i can honestly say that the wii is my favourite console this generation, but only cuz im biased towards nintendo titles :P

If you haven't you should check out Super Mario RPG, Ogre Battle and Secret of Mana from VC. Those are some excellent RPG's and if you haven't played them you should give them a try. Oh, and get Fragile Dreams; and Sakura Wars; and look out for XenoBlade and The Last Story.

Pray for Reginleiv ever getting a western release date (or a fan translation patch!). Do you like Fatal Frame? Fatal Frame IV is on Wii, it never got a western release but got a translation patch.

If you like platformers you have DKCR, Kirby, Epic Mickey and Sonic Colors coming in a few months.

Oh, and get Metroid Prime Trilogy. You have to. For your own good. And mine.

Also why has there been no f-zero the motion controls would have been perfect for F-Zero

1. Final Fantasy 7

2. Sonic The Hedgehog

3. Revenge Of Shinobi

4. Mortal Kombat

5. GTA series

6. Need For Speed Underground

7. Super Mario Kart

8. ToeJam & Earl

9. Road Rash 2

10. NBA JAM

Judging from this list... I think you have the wrong console. And should probably look to invest in a new one.

My thoughts exactly. When your favorite game is FFVII and your only current console is the Wii... well, that doesn't quite match.

It's like saying that Ocarina of Time is your favorite game, and you only have a PS3. Not fitting.

Other M has the same issue a lot of Wii games have -- mixed reviews that often are for reasons that have much more to do with the reviewer than with the game itself. (The result of this is that sometimes negative opinions get formed regarding games for undeserved reasons, leading to people spouting on user boards about how bad something is as if they have played it when in reality they have not).

The G4 review of Other M has its own thread -- so I won't discuss it here. But it is certainly not  the first time it has happened. For example, Chris Kohler of Wired gave Mario Kart Wii a 6/10 because the Battle Mode was now team-based only so he could not play it with his brother in the same way he played the game on the GC. Think about that -- how many people get Mario Kart for the Battle Mode?

The point here is two-fold. The first is that some people have unrealistic expectations regarding games from the Wii. They may hold Nintendo to a much higher standard than anyone else or may dock review points on a Wii game for something that would be overlooked elsewhere (To revisit a past controversy, how many reviewers ignored pop-up graphic issues with GTA4 in giving it a perfect score?)

The second point is more related to the OP. Different individuals like different types of games and different consoles have strengths and weaknesses in different genres. The Wii has strengths in platformers, kart racing games, and cartoon sports. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have strengths in Action RPGs, Sandbox games, and Figthers. The Nintendo DS and PSP are probably the best places to find JPRGs.  This is not to say that there is not something on each of the consoles in just about every genre.

So you need to do your homework, determine what games you want to play, and maybe even buy another console.

My guess is though if you looked long and hard, you probably could find the 8-12 games on the Wii that you really want to play ... and that where the attach rate for a console usually settles when all sales are done (and usually closer to 8).

It's quite ironic that some people suggests him to buy a PS3. He likes playing with Nunchuk and Wiimote and not with last-last-gen PS3 controls :)

I am shure you have overlook some good Wii games, because there are so many really good games out there. 2010 has been gamewise the best Wii year so far and it seems that this continues for the rest of 2010 and 2011.

2011? What does the wii have announced for 2011

mM

Reading thorugh your list OP you are really on the wrong console.

I would urge you to get a Nintendo DS or a PS3.

9. Road Rash 2

10. NBA JAM

1.- FF VII was the begining of the end for me, main series is in the PS3 but none of them have matched the masterpiece that FF VI is.

2.- Sonic is nothing but a decaying and rotten corpse  used as a puppet for Sega, well maybe Sonic Colors for the Wii could be good .... maybe.

3.- Another dead franchise.

4.- Mortal Kombat, dead but the rebirth could be good, unfortunally it's a PS3 anmd XBOX360 title.

5.- PS3 or XBOX360, I haven't played the game in 1 1/2 year, one of the biggest dissapoinments of this generation for me.

6.- Another dying series that it's at the PS3 and XBOX360

7.- Mario Kart ... Wii???

8.- It's dead

9.- Dead

10.- It's comming in a couple of months for the Wii.

What a surprise, you don't like all the HD offererings

I don't see what your opinion on those games has to do with this tbh ..

See(ce) what I did thar? I mean hell you recommended a stripped down version of NBA Jam on another console that for right now is only coming with NBA Elite a 60 dollar game he might not even want since he obviously likes the arcade style

Anyway I personally own all the consoles for me I could sustain just owning a Wii and a DS but for the big hyped titles you'll need a HD console, and the one with the best features and most exclusives would be a PS3 and it has games that fit your liking like the FF series.

1. Dragon Quest X is hitting Wii, Final Fantasy IV the After Years is on Wii Ware, The Last Story/Xenoblade is coming next year, otherwise FFXIII and Versus XIII is on PS3 but as far as the Nomura crafted FF games VII is still the best.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is hitting every download service, get it!  As for console Sonic Sonic Unleashed Wii/PS2 versions have day levels designed by Dimps (the guys making StH4) which are amazing and makes those the superior versions.

3. Shinobi... that's a hard void to fill closest thing I could suggest is Ninja Blade on 360 and PC

4. Mortal Kombat there is a bad Wii game with a crap load of content and there's a bad PS3 and 360 version with a lot less content, though the new one has promise and its just for PS3 and 360.  For other 2D fighters I really enjoy Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom 3 is hitting soon.

5. GTA series, IV is on PS3 and 360 period though much more serious than a typical GTA game, if you like top down GTA I highly recommend Chinatown Wars and there's a new Wii Ware game called Retro City Rampage in the same style coming.

6. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit reboot is incoming for all consoles

7. Sonic and Sega all stars racing hit not too long ago and already has a price drop, not the best kart racer but not terrible either.

8. Toe Jam and Earl is another hard void to fill since the series isn't going anymore but the 2D platformer void New Super Mario Bros, A Boy and his Blob, Limbo, and Little Big Planet, platformers in general Super Mario Galaxy 2 period, best 3D platformer ever, the refreshing ideas of Galaxy with much more content and is harder.

9. Road Rash another dead franchise but if you just like killing things while behind the wheel and not exactly taking golf clubs and bats to another biker you can play Twisted Metal on PS3

10. NBA Jam Wii is coming this year, there is the download version coming with NBA Elite but it's not the entire game, if you missed out on the Street series it was essentially NBA Jam in 3D, though the first 3 are what you'd want to pick up and I believe NBA Street 2 or 3 on GC had Mario characters thrown in for a bonus lol

Obviously I did or I wouldn't have saw your comments, really though you were just getting an attitude with a guy trying to make a few recommendations and that isn't cool, no real need for that in the forums, it's kinda stupid and petty, if the guy was like OH DAMN DON'T GET AN HD CONSOLE THEY HAVE NOTHING BUT BAD GAMES STICK TO WII, then I could see some justification, as it stands alfred recommended games of similar styles/genres on a console the OP owns right now, nothing wrong with that, it's like comping an attitude cause a guy isn't satisfied with the 360, he gives a list of things he likes and you try to find games that reflect his tastes on a console he already owns cause that's convenient and doesn't require buying a brand new console.
