Other M has the same issue a lot of Wii games have -- mixed reviews that often are for reasons that have much more to do with the reviewer than with the game itself. (The result of this is that sometimes negative opinions get formed regarding games for undeserved reasons, leading to people spouting on user boards about how bad something is as if they have played it when in reality they have not).

The G4 review of Other M has its own thread -- so I won't discuss it here. But it is certainly not  the first time it has happened. For example, Chris Kohler of Wired gave Mario Kart Wii a 6/10 because the Battle Mode was now team-based only so he could not play it with his brother in the same way he played the game on the GC. Think about that -- how many people get Mario Kart for the Battle Mode?

The point here is two-fold. The first is that some people have unrealistic expectations regarding games from the Wii. They may hold Nintendo to a much higher standard than anyone else or may dock review points on a Wii game for something that would be overlooked elsewhere (To revisit a past controversy, how many reviewers ignored pop-up graphic issues with GTA4 in giving it a perfect score?)

The second point is more related to the OP. Different individuals like different types of games and different consoles have strengths and weaknesses in different genres. The Wii has strengths in platformers, kart racing games, and cartoon sports. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have strengths in Action RPGs, Sandbox games, and Figthers. The Nintendo DS and PSP are probably the best places to find JPRGs.  This is not to say that there is not something on each of the consoles in just about every genre.

So you need to do your homework, determine what games you want to play, and maybe even buy another console.

My guess is though if you looked long and hard, you probably could find the 8-12 games on the Wii that you really want to play ... and that where the attach rate for a console usually settles when all sales are done (and usually closer to 8).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
