Forums - Sales - Wii losing its thunder?

See the list of things the Wii has going against it this year compared to last in the other cool Wii sales thread.

Well, I think the PS3 Slim/Pricecut was pretty huge last September to drive the PS3 into the forefront of the marketplace... but Move/Kinect do have the potential to have a bigger effect to compete against the Wii... or it could not affect much at all. We won't know until they come out (I see Kinect doing much better than Move, and in that affecting 360 sales for the better. But we'll see.).

Anywho, the Wii will be just fine this holiday season. It won''t match the craziness of 2009 with New Super Mario Bros. Wii (no console, and no game will do what Wii/NSMBW did last December for a very long time anyways... so that's to be expected anyways). Still, with Donkey Kong Country Returns (which you don't think will have much of an impact, but I do. I guess it's another wait and see thing.) Kirby, Wii Party, Epic Mickey, and a bunch of other titles coming out... the Wii's set for another awesome holiday season methinks.

i dont see the wii being huge this holiday. ps3 is tracking slightly under it, and i see no reason why that isnt going to stay the same this holiday. other then donkey kong i dont see hardware movers, but really what can donkey kong do. i see the hd twins combined doing 1.4 1.6 times what the wii will do this holiday.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Nintendo always has higher holiday lifts than Sony or Microsoft, I don't see any real reason that would change this year?  I don't expect another 4m December in the US alone, but Nintendo hardware and software is still going to get huge gains this holiday.

The Wii lost its thunder in the second half of 2008 already and it's not coming back.

Long time no see ya pal.

Also, it is almost impossible to get the Wii "thunder" back. The only way it could do it is by making an ultra-combo of games on the weight of Mario Kart and Wii Fit and launch them all in the same year. That would be flashy.

It is impossible. The ultra-combo you speak of was launched last year: Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, combined with a price cut. Well yes, the thunder was back for a while, but that was only temporarly. It's never going to be again like it once was.

Maybe by launching Wif Fit Plus More and Wii Sports Resort Ultra and New Super Mario Wii 2 AND New Super Mario Wii 3 (at the same time!) and an ultra top secret game ("Wii Music 2: More bad music 4 you!"), a 2D Zelda game and also offering a cookie machine bundle it would work.

Also, http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/43129/rollstoppable/, did you clone yourself or this is someone else's evil scheme?

Above: still the best game of the year.

No need for all that.   Nintendo just needs to bring out a modern version of the only NES peripheral without a Wii variation yet:

NES

Wii

Admit it.   You'd buy a Wii for that.  You know you would...

YOY Wii is not really 'way down' as you proclaim. Its summer and no big games recently. Wii is performing as expected.

360 is up due to clearance of old skus and the slim model.

However, this holiday will prove once again that Wii is the dominant console as it trounces PS360 combined.

rofl, dream on.

See my table in other ridiculas Wii is domed thread.

Yeah?? You don't have Wii doing PS360 numbers at all.

Fine here is my table, I hate duplicating posts.

JAN-AUG 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010
X360    2,947,603      2,826,295      4,097,550      4,279,386      5,233,468
Wii                   -        7,649,704    11,384,682      8,331,405      7,819,594
PS3                   -        3,062,571      4,969,406      3,987,579      5,805,761
AUG-DEC 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010
X360    2,808,860      5,052,050      6,911,103      5,952,830      6,500,000
Wii    2,932,010      8,738,237    13,008,999    13,471,479    12,000,000
PS3    1,232,194      4,559,320      4,750,059      8,601,436      8,000,000
TOTAL 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010
X360    5,756,463      7,878,345    11,008,653    10,232,216    11,733,468
Wii    2,932,010    16,387,941    24,393,681    21,802,884    19,819,594
PS3    1,232,194      7,621,891      9,719,465    12,589,015    13,805,761

***Assuming they do not get price cuts, if they do each will easily do an additional million or so.

Wii is going to outsell PS360 easily this holiday like I said.

I'm confused, do you mean Wii is going to outsell PS360 combined like earlier? Because your "estimated" numbers paint a different picture. HD 14.5 mill vs Wii 12 mill.

Hate to break your bubble but this XMAS isn't gonna be such a walk in the park for Wii.

No, I meant that it would still greatly outsell PS3 or 360, I didn't mean to imply combined. My bad.

"However, this holiday will prove once again that Wii is the dominant console as it trounces PS360 combined."

Kinda means you did

LOL ooops. Doesn't say that now. :P

Still looks ridiculous

it lost its thunder in 2008? People seem to forget Wii's december numbers last year :/

The wii is down severily compared to last year..

and it's $199 this year compared to $249 last year, and it has a new color, AND it's bundled with wii sports resort..

*raises eyebrow*

2009: 8,945,173

2010: 8,727,181

If -220,000 YoY is down "severily" (severely), then we have very different definitions of the word. Now, if you were talking about compared to 2008, then you might be on to something.
