Forums - Sony - MASS EFFECT 2 (PS3) Confirmed - Jan 2011!

About these choices... they dont have that big of an impact on the game as they like you to believe.

Ive played both ME1 and ME2 several times, taking different actions.. but the story that goes from ME1's decisions to ME2 always turn out to be basicly the same. Some minor things changes the dialog, but nothing makes the story do a 180' like most of you seem to believe.

The major ME1 decisions were to have a large effect in ME3's outcome. Wrex, The Rachni Queen, The Council etc.

Im Kind of pissed. Console Identity is slowly dying

EA has no sense of console identity. It's more Microsofts fault for not buying Bioware. This was doomed to happen and was leaked since june.

MS did try to buy Bioware actually. I remember Shane Kim mentioning it.

I'm glad more people will get a chance to check ME2 out.

Never really understood the appeal of exclusives. How does other console owners playing a game take anything away from your gaming experience?

It does suck that ME isn't coming too. I would still pick it up if I only had a ps3, just go read a summary of the first game and hope the extra hour of content BioWare is adding to ME2 is going to explain some of the major plot points from ME.

Oh man, this is such sweet, sweet news. Haha.

Will enjoy this next Easter for hours on end, no doubt.

Mass Effect is like a bicycle. Now everyone gets a ride!

Anyway, it doesn't matter that much to the Xbox 360, a year is pretty much an eternity in this business. Whatever ME1/2 have done to benefit the Xbox 360 has already happened. Looking backwards people tend to forget how important these timed exclusives were at the time of release because they become subsequently multiplatform.

Tease.

SPOILER:

The decisions from ME1 (and ME2) will play their role in ME3, but the game itself will not do a 180 based on your decisions to kill Wrex or not, or if you saved the Council. The multiple scenarios you'd have to account for in ME3 would be too great, so the changes you'll see.. like in the ME1 -> ME2, is dialog options that help paint the mood of your character and the characters you encounter throughout the ME3 universe. But its not like if you decided to let the Council get destroyed, different maps and levels will open up and different boss fights will take place, or the ME universe will look totally different.

It will be like when they interview you about your past in ME2. They talk about you leaving "whats his/her name" with the nuke, for the greater good, in ME1. And the difference is "i feel bad", to "i did what i had to do to save lives". But non of it shows in gameplay throughout ME2.

Your right about the 180 thingy.

But these subtle things you see while playing are REALLY AWESOME and PS3 buyers of ME2 won't get that moment of realisation

Also the Rachni Queen thing COULD be a 180 degrees thingy if I think my prediction for what will happen regarding the Rachni Queen in ME3 is true.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Console wars aside people.

I feel genuinely happy, and genuinely upset for you guys at the same time.

ME1 is needed a great deal. And the whole point of Mass Effect as a series was the continuation of your acts to the story.

ME3 is said to be even more influenced by the first games choices than the 2nd game. So if ME3 came to PS3 how would that be? A different game entirely?

It's a shame, because the wow factor and interaction will not be there for PS3 only owning fans. It's the molding of the universe as you play through ME1 and then ME2 that makes ths series what it is.

IT is still a great game that some of you may enjoy. But it will not give you any of that brilliance that PC/360 owners will be experiencing with ME2 and the follow on in ME3.

I dont expect this to sell well, or review well for the PS3 version. IT loses to much not having the first.

Wall of text.. not really aimed at your replay, but to the decision making whine overall.

I've even played ME2 without continuing with my savefiles from ME1, and pre-set decisions are made. You don't have to be the one who decides the outcome of every little thing in order to enjoy the next installment. The only thing you need from ME1 in this case is the story, if you want to know the background to some things in ME2. But as far as decision making, it will not have such an impact that any gametime on ME2, and later on with ME3, will be unplayable due to lack of ME1 on the PS3. A quick YouTube video can bring you up to speed.

The lack of ME1 decisions, that most of the people seem to whine about on different internet forums, PS3 only gamers will miss out on, don't account for much.. really.

Its nice and all to go all in with the RPG elements and act as if you're Shepard and feel like its the same Shepard you built from ME1, but as for PS3 only gamers not being able to enjoy ME2 or ME3 without ME1 is just wrong. Like i said, pre set decisions for people who never played ME1 is made in ME2, and those will be transfered into ME3 together with whatever you did in ME2. So if you didnt do an active choice to kill Wrex in ME1, ME2 will claim you did and the rest is history, and PS3 ME3 will most likely not suffer from you not making that decision.

Look at inFamous for example, decisions made often turns out the same in the end, its just the way you approached them that makes the people affected by them act differently, but you'll end up in the same place no matter what you do. The dialogs might change but the game will not.

Another refrence is to the game Dragon Age Origins, a game that actually punished you if you made a bad decision. If you say the wrong things levels won't open up or you'll have to do huge boss battles that other players just talked their way out of. And those decisions either gives you better items, saves you items, robs you of items and/or allies you've counted on in you're style of play. You dont see any of that in ME because ME is far too casual in its decision making compared to DAO. And that's why the decisions from ME1, or lack thereof, won't really matter in PS3 ME2.. or ME3.
