Forums - General Discussion - Gay Bar Opening Up Next to Ground Zero Mosque!!!

considering its against their religion to be gay, this is going to be funny.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Hilarious... Already knew about this days ago... If the muslims demand tolerance then they better show some tolerance themselves.

...this noise about Obama backing a mosque near ground zero, and it being disrespectful to Americans and blah blah blah. Get over it. It's a free country. We are guaranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If someone wants to build a mosque to show that Islam isn't all terrorism and extremism next to the attack site, let them. And if someone wants to open a gay bar right next to said mosque, to show them how ignorant and intolerant their hate for the culture is, then let them. This is AMERICA. This country is built on eradicating prejudice and ignorance.

Sure...many Americans don't follow this, and are stuck in they're conservative ways: "this is our country, all these 'others' don't need to be here" <----type nonsense, it doesn't change the fact that America was built upon certain foundations. I'm tired of people thinking certain things like this are upsetting the establishment...even though people have every right to do something like this. I HATE conservative news talk about how "well...maybe people don't like the change and like how things are"...but that in itsself is anti-American because we as a country and a people are ALWAYS changing.

But long story short, this shouldn't be controversy. It shouldn't even be news. It's all within the laws of this nation, and the only people who are making a scene are people using scare tactics. OMG a mosque at ground zero? But the muslims attacked the WTC!". That kind of thinking is what keeps this nation in the metaphorical dark ages. And intolerance of others is what keeps all other cultures in relative dark ages. I normally don't agree with the things that are on Fox News, and I bet this guy is only taking this initiative BECAUSE he's one of the people who believes that mosque = muslim = al quaeda = terrorism, etc and with this knowledge, he's taking one of the more hated topics amongst the Islamic culture, and putting it in their face. But ignoring his beliefs, the action he is taking is a step forward in breaking down the walls we have in this world, and I totally agree with him opening his gay bar. As much as I agree with Obama condoning a mosque to be built next to ground zero.

If people are really that ignorant to think that muslims paying homage to the men and women that died in 9/11 and trying to prove that the muslim faith does not automatically equate to extremism, they really need to just find a gun, put it to their face, and pull the trigger. My two cents

This is... fucking brilliant.

Unbelievably childish... but brilliant.

Pretty transparant paragraph there.

It's not possible it's the other way around, you're so quick to call the people behind the mosque as doing it for the right reasons, yet the gay bar is ignorance and introlerance ...

I think me, and most people are on the same wave length. Them opening a mosque ANYWHERE near Groud Zero is disrespectful. They should be understanding in that a lot of locals there lost family members in 9/11 and if they don't want a mosque there they should respect that. They're selish, only thinking of their own needs.

And you know what, the gay bar more than likely is a retaliation, but I say good on them. Might give them a wake up call to get a dose of their own medicine.

It seems kind of tasteless to build a mosque next to ground zero in the first place. I can't really see any self respecting Muslim wanting to go there.

Why? Muslims weren't responsible for what happened, crazy idiots were. Maybe they want to pay respect to the many Muslims that died that day too.

On topic, the gay bar thing seems silly and redundent, nigh on all religions don't like gay people, this includes the dominant religion of those watching Fox probably.

Hmm, pie.

FTR you should know that the guy who said he wants to build a gay bar is very homophobic. He's only doing this to make muslims angry.

I understand that, I guess I may not be able to relate from a theist point of view as I'm an atheist.

But relating to it from an atheist point of view, it would be like me distancing myself from Chairman Mao. We're both atheists, but I don't share his extremist views on religion and I would actively distance myself from them. Even if that meant not overtly showing my atheism to Chinese people from the Mao generation whose lives would have been negatively affected by the governments lack of tolerance towards religious leaders.

The Muslim Centre is in New York, surely they (ignoring the fact it's apparently their land and have the right to build there as the TV guy has the right to open his bar) have already distanced themselves from those who claim to be part of their faith as much as they can already. Having to keep hush that you are Muslim just because someone was affected by the tragedy seems wrong because it wasn't you who did it. Essentially allowing Islam as a whole to get blamed, not just radical extremists.

(...is that what you were saying? sorry got lost)
