Another thing to think about with 3D tvs is that if you grab one, especially since you are doing it for Football, you can't really have football parties. Watching a 3Dtv is just asking for your eyes to go bad and I'm guessing you won't have too many glasses.

I wouldn't make your buying decision on 3D as it is now. Its so hopelessly wrong in its current form. You shouldn't have to spend 100's on glassess for each person to watch the 3D effect.

I would purchase a lower priced quality TV.

Keep in mind that LED is an LCD tv. If you are looking at the ultra thin LEDs then there is no difference in potential picture quality to any older style LCD tv. However, the LED tvs that are backlit will look better as they can produced better blacks similar to Plasmas as they can actaully turn off any individual pixel.

I bought a 46" $800 Sony from Costco in February and haven't seen any difference between it and any other TV in any store yet. Considering I only own a PS3 and Avatar on bluray and Avatar is currently a hit in every store display, its an easy comparison.

I have a 4,6,and 7 year old and I wouldn't give them $100-$200 glasses to wear to watch a movie. Plus it would cost me at least $500 in glasses alone for my family, but more likely a lot more.

2. What sort of 3D content is available now and what is going to be added over the next 6-12 months? I'm interested in movies, games and TV content, including tv shows and especially sports:

ps it's censored research item but NSFW

I don't really have football parties to the extent that I'll have like 10-15 people over. I just don't have the room. The package deal comes with 4 glasses already, which is typically nearing the max I have over at any given time. Otherwise it does revert back to a 58" 2D television if I have too many over during a game.

yeah.... nice plan. I see that happening with 4yr old wearing them and potentially other children or drunken friends while you and only 3 other people watch some sporting event.

Not to mention the plasma TV it comes with is a low end TV. Look it up for its individual costs to see what your really paying for those items.

When I researched TVs in feb, I originally thought about getting a plasma but all I read about on many different forums and tech reviews was how burn in was still an issue and they used considerable more electricity than LCD TVs.

My personal prefrence would be to just buy a regular LCD TV and wait until 3D is either using the passive system with cheaper glasses like theaters or a glassless system like the 3DS.

I would have to agree with SuperChunk on this one. 3D just isn't a viable option yet. As I see it that TV embodies two technologies that aren't perfected yet, plasma and 3D. I'm sure you could find a better deal without the 3D.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Plasmas are the devil. I fell into the "They don't burn much anymore" crap. Yeah sure they don't but plan to only play for maybe an hour or two at a time. I played 3 hours and had a permanent residual charge of a M.E. 1 Radar hub on my screen. Go LCD or L.E.D. Plasma is junk.

So what would you suggest overall? I'd like to stick to my size requirements at least, 55-60". An LED that size is more expensive than the 3D Plasma deal. An LCD, it's hard to pin down but maybe $1500 or so. A DLP maybe? I could do 60" easy for $900. Not sure what everyone thinks of DLP though.
