FF was about as disappointing as any jrpg this gen, excluding Lost Odyssey. Waste of money. Bought it day one too. :(

I felt it was amazing but I can totally see why not all people liked it. In fact, I'm not even sure why I liked it so much.

It was a good game, but very dissapointing to me.

I've gone back sometimes to kill some more long gui, but in all that's not what i want from a FF. Bring back Squaresoft indeed...

And where's my 'jrpg' now that i own a current gen console!!! Ps2 was overwhelmed with turn-based combat but the ps3?

The DS will be your friend, in terms of JRPGs, it is this generation's PS2.

It's got the FF/DQ remakes, a CT port, 2 Mario and Luigi RPGs, Dragon Quest IX, TWEWY, Fire Emblem, FF Tactics A2, Disgaia, Valkrie Profile and loads more

I thought it was amazing... It felt like a cross between X and XII without towns. Which is fine with me.

But then again, I'd get bashed for loving X-2 and thinking it's one of the best Final Fantasy's and I've played 4-13. Probably my 3rd favorite, and I've loved all the final fantasy's I've played besides 2 of them. So my opinion is apparently irrelevant. :P

Squaresoft isn't going to come back. But those people are either working with Square-Enix... or with Monolith Soft, Mistwalker, independantly or somewhere else for the most part. So it's not like they dissapeared.

Lost Odyssey. Though, I'd guess you don't have an xbox (could be wrong, but you mentioned ps3 specifially). And I'm sure you've heard of it. Or maybe you've played it. It's great IMO.

I second that. LO is the jrpg of this gen.

Lost Odyssey is a far batter game. It may not have the visual flair of FF13, but it's so bad knowing FF13 will sell more because of the name.

I urge anyone to buy and play Lost Odyssey over FF13. It's definately worth it.

I haven't played LO, but I think these are the definitive RPGs of this gen:

I excluded ports/remakes so Pokemon HG/SS, Chrono Trigger, DQ V, FF IV and the like didn't turn up

You should try it, if you have a chance. My only doubt is that you seem to like the kind of jrpg:s which I can't stand but LO is very much like good old FF-games.
