Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Another Analyst Suggests Wii 1.5 On the Way

I think Nintendo needs to somehow create something more innovative than the Kinect before releasing a new console.

If Nintendo owned the Kinect technology, that would have been the foundation of their next console. They need something innovative and the Kinect is hard to top at the moment.

Analyst.   Must be the only job out there that requires you be inaccurate as much as possible.   Not even the weatherman gets it wrong as bad as these guys do.

That's not fair. The weatherman gets to make a new prediction every day. Anlaysts have to wait six months to find out how worthless their stab in the dark was. A weatherman's run of bad luck lasts a week before he gets one right, analysts can guess wrong for an entire console generation.

The tech was offered to Nintendo first.  They declined it because it wasn't good enough.

Oh boy, that was a dumb move.

I find it hard to believe Nintendo doesn't regret it now. Kinect will be big with MS behind it. But if Nintendo was behind it, sales would have been epic.

But the tech isn't very and contradicts the Wii's concept of using gestures, pointing and buttons.

It would be impossible to do most of Nintendo's big games via Kinect hardware.

Well they could have offered both the WIimote and Kinect technology.

I mean the Wiimote isn't perfect for everything, which is why they sell the classic controller.

Like I said, it could have been a great project for Nintnedo in the future. Future being now because the Wiimote has lost its charm and a PS3 is offering something incredibly similar. Not that the Move is any threat to the Wii.

... and sell the Wii for $500

So do analysts believe that there will be new dev kits sent out to developers? Dev kits of a slightly better console? Do they think that Nintendo would be so short-sighted to think devs would put time and money into developing games that are slightly better looking/functional that the current Wii console?

What?

Oh boy, its amazing how I need to elaborate to you Nintendo fans.

First of all its not that expensive and I'm not saying they should have launched it with the Wii. They should have jumped on the opportunity to get the technology. They could have saved it for a little later into the Wii's life or use it on the next Nintendo console.

For example, the Wii Balance Board wasn't released with the Wii. It was an accessory that came a little later was a success. Same goes for Wiimotion and other crap they are putting out. Kinect could have been another great addition to Wii peripherals or the gimmick for their next console.

I do think after seeing how well these strategies worked for the X360 and PS3 it would be a good time to actually copy a marketing strategy. A repackaging and rebranding of the system with a few new features accompanied by the next $50 price cut would probably do well. The PS2 used a couple of slim models to get to its status as best selling home console of all time, Wii might as well try it also.

Copy? nintendo doesn't copy!!!!! ;)

*looks at gba and DSs versions*
