Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Another Analyst Suggests Wii 1.5 On the Way

Not Pachter so it's safe to read on

Maybe 1.5 will be in silver

Despite Satoru Iwata's recent declaration that the eventual Wii successor will be a surprise, another industry analyst has predicted we'll see a stopgap between now and the launch of the main event.

Piers Harding-Rolls, analyst at Screen Digest, believes Nintendo will release an upgraded version of the Wii before launching its official follow-up, though doesn't say what extra features either the upgrade or eventual successor will include. Pegging the Wii's successor for a 2012 launch in Japan and a 2013 release worldwide, the analyst says we could see an improved Wii between now and 2012.

With Nintendo stating time and again it won't be releasing a HD upgrade for the Wii, it remains to be seen what new features a potential stopgap could have: built-in MotionPlus, a hard drive, improved online functions? If Mr Harding-Rolls is to be believed, we could find out next year.

I think they should make it now.

Wii HD 1.5 is so obviously coming. I can't remember a game analyst ever being wrong.

I think eventually that Motion Plus will be integrated into the main controller and sold with the system, but I don't consider simple consolidation sufficient to warrant labling it Wii 1.5 - just as the PS3 slim is not a PS3.5.

Anyway, Nintendo should just release an entirely new (backward compatible) system in 2012 and be done with it.

I do think after seeing how well these strategies worked for the X360 and PS3 it would be a good time to actually copy a marketing strategy. A repackaging and rebranding of the system with a few new features accompanied by the next $50 price cut would probably do well. The PS2 used a couple of slim models to get to its status as best selling home console of all time, Wii might as well try it also.

Analyst.   Must be the only job out there that requires you be inaccurate as much as possible.   Not even the weatherman gets it wrong as bad as these guys do.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Hm, with the Wii declining a Wii slim might keep the Wii from falling off completely until Wii 2 arrives.

HD could be a feature but there's nothing else I could think off...the console is already slim so...
