Forums - Sony - Why is Sony going to be number 1 next gen?

I think this gen brought Sony back to earth, so I think next-gen sony will have a more affordable system and a great starter library so they will have a much better start and position

as for handhelds: Sony being in first? yeah...when....

sorry A bad clown, had to use this!!!=)

Hrm... sorry, but I don't think it's going to be. I'll start off by stating that each company has its dedicated fans that won't waffle away, but that's a relatively small group for each of them. I'll break down the systems, though-

PS4: I've heard people ask why it costs so much, even recently, among some in the non-gaming public. Sony, in 1 gen, has gotten the Playstation brand to be considered an overpowered brand that is overpriced to boot. Continuing this trend will keep the cost prohibitively expensive. Conversely, if they drop the power, they'd be too dependant on Microsoft not going for power, lest they (Sony) lose their powerful edge to those who got it for being a powerful system. Plus, they've lost the benefit of being the leader from the prior gen, so those who get the system expecting it to take off will be less likely to consider it; this includes some 3rd party developers. And with less games being made, it'll just make getting first that much tougher.

PSP2: The biggest problem I think Sony is having here, and is still having, is the portable part. Rather than making things better suited for a portable gaming experience, it's being touted as a mini-Playstation, with full games to take on the go. Sounds good on paper, but the technophiles would rather have the game on their huge setup, and a fair amount of the portable market needs to be able to play a bit and stop. The PSP is more competition than Nintendo has had to the portables in over 15 years. But until they understand that there is a different market, they won't have a chance at taking first here. If they do, it'll come closer than the PSP did, but it will be too late, and a fair bit of 3rd party support will already be in 3DS mode...

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

Because by the time it releases everyone will want the latest *insert media storage* player.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Because it will be the first Console to be able to diplay games in 4K widescreen (4096x2160) resolution!

All of this at 60 fps and 3D (with glasses). :P

Seriously, who knows.  But one thing is sure, it will be an exciting time when they finally release the specs and features at some upcoming E3.

From last to first because of games by Bungie

Hmm...

PS4 -

Well, the main point... It will be affordable.

It should launch simultaneously worldwide. And they should also try get it out earlier than at least one of the other 2 consoles. They don't want to be last onto the market, and they want to get early dev kits out to every possible developer to ensure the PS4 is getting the best versions of games... Not shoddy ports.

Sony continue to expand into new, growing markets.

They could still use Blu-ray in the PS4. It will be cheap and affordable by the time PS4 releases, and will still be growing with Blu-ray movies too.

Advertise the fact that you offer online play, along with a bunch of other great online features that the competition (currently) don't, for free. And make sure they know it's on a higher level (dedicated servers)

The PS3 is powerful enough now that a huge graphical update, ala PS2 to PS3, wont be needed.

It will have a number of different controller options. DualShock, PS Move, PS Eye, Etc.

Sony will need to get the big games out as early as possible. Not wait 3/4 Years into the consoles cycle to release your biggest game. I'm talking to you, Polyphony Digital.

Sony will also need to keep, and use, big franchises built in this generation. Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Etc.

They will need to do a MS, and get a bunch of exclusive stuff. Be it timed exclusivity, DLC, "console exclusive"... They need it!

Japan, and Europe have both shown that the PlayStation brand is still alive and well. They just need something big that reaches out to the American audience so that they can keep up in that country. They need a big new IP on the levels of Halo or Mario.

Oh, and they need to stop the other consoles "stealing" the exclusives. That's a certainty. With the PS4 pushing for a more profitable SCE, we could see Sony splash out on 3rd parties like the PS1/PS2 eras.

It will massively push 3D.

PSP2 -

lol

The will be the number 1 third party becasue their games will sell well on all platforms.

lulz j/k

I LOVE ICELAND!

Because the PS4 will be in it's own generation. I'll skip the first 2/3 years of the 8th generation. Then it'll release and it'll be 10 times as powerful as the 720 and Wii2. Everyone will forget about the 8th gen and the PS4 will be the best-selling console of all time, selling at least 200 million consoles within 6 years.  : {D

Quote me on this!

Seriously though, I do think that the PS3 will release a few years after the 8th gen starts, so it'll probably always be under Wii/720 in sales, due to releasing a few years later. That's what Sony said anyway. I guess they have faith that the PS3 will be able to compete in the 8th gen for the first few years.

They're always number one to me =] , well SCEJ atleast.
