NOT NEW IPs.   New types of game/game design.  Wii Sports is minigames that existed long before the Wii, we played those long ago.  Knowledge quizes and such existed, Disaster is just a bunch of old genres bunched together etc etc.

Swinging a wii mote instead of pressing a button is not some new for a games content, and that is what nintendo are lacking this gen.  A lot of us do not want a new way to do something old on screen, we want something new on screen.

I find it hard pressed for you to actually find something today that doesn't barrow from something else... you're just moving goal posts when innovation and design is progressive and builds upon itself.  Some forms of game play you can still trace back to the Magnavox Brown Box... your stance just doesn't make sense so it really doesn't matter cause if you want to make that stance you must be unhappy with games as a whole right now.

Please Kyliedog I beseech you, I really don't know why you have to agree with every garbage article and start some shit in every thread that is discussing the article, but it's getting old so please just stop it does nothing for you.

Not my fault you cannot seperate game design and control design.  As far as game design goes Nintendo have shown a poor performance compared to there past selves, just copying older games mostly with very little changes.

Stop with the move the goalpost nonsense if you please, I used specific examples in my post which was not listing new IPs but new game design moments, even listed Mario and Zelda more than once so this certainly is not a new IP discussion.  Your attempt to turn this into an IP argument is wrong, that is never what I said, so no, no goalposts moved, you just couldn't see where they were.

Is also cool how you single me out like I'm the only one who thinks this yet others agreed with me.

Uh no one agreed with you once you made your stance about "game design" your first comment centered around "Nintendo making something new" the people that did agree with you were boutros and leatherhat... there were more that disagreed with that lol

Anyway stop with the talking down to me tone "Not my fault you cannot seperate game design and control design" which is funny cause I didn't even mention control design

You really haven't given examples of lack of game design either... saying Super Mario Galaxy is the same as Mario 64 is a gross generalization and an inherently faulty basis for an argument.

I miss the days of Nintendo when they were creating new IPs in several genres like Electroplankton, Orbient, Light Trax, Wii Fit, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Rotohex, Band Brothers, Soundvoyager, Wii Sports, Excitebots, Rhythm Heaven, Captain Rainbow, and a few others.  Man they used to be on top of their game.  Now it's all sequels and rehashes.  It's not like anybody actually wants more of the same old boring annual sequels of Kid Icarus, Punch-Out!!, Excitebike, Pilotwings, or Star Fox.  We've had too much of those already.

I'm with you man. Nintendo doesn't care about their loyal fans anymore. They abandoned us. They never give us what we want anymore, instead they put out shit like Wii Fit. All they ever seem to do is remake the same games over and over again. Twilight Princess is just a remake of Ocarina of Time. I wan't the old Nintendo back, where they gave us Starfox and Punch-Out!! and 2D Mario games, but now we just get Mario Galaxy which is just a remake of Mario 64 and then they added Yoshi to the game and named it Mario Galaxy 2! I mean what the hell, who does that!? They never make anything new anymore, it's just casual crap that nobody likes. Nintendo are a shadow of their former selves, I'm just not compelled to buy a Wii when the other games on the alternate consoles are actually being very innovative and not remaking the same thing over and over again. I've realized this because i'm such a hardcore gamer. You Nintendo fans all need to wake up and smell the coffee, Nintendo suck now, they're gone.

How technical is your game?

It wouldn't be so bad if Nintendo actually did something innovative with their IPs like make them HD or add online multiplayer instead of gimmicky motion control.

Reinventing the standard controller isn't innovative, Nintendo have been doing it for over 25 years. It's starting to get old now.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

yeah that article is a troll article. im no nintendo fan by any means but the wii has so matter games that I'd love to get my hands on if i wasn't broke...not to mention some of the games shown at e3.....but then again im one of those casual gamers who only loves mainstream  games like sin & punishment 2.

Let it be noted that I agree with Kyliedogie about game design. Earlier in the thread I mentioned that nintendos wii games have been my least favorite of their respective series and that hasn't changed.

Well, I'd just like to let you know that they are not the worst.

SMBB>SMB64 any day of the week.

MKWii>Double Dash!!

And although I haven't played Twilight Princess, do you think that it's worse than LoZ for the NES?

I won't comment on the others, but I hope you're not implying The Legend of Zelda for the NES was a weak game! It's tied with Twilight Princess in user reviews on VGC, though I personally think it's better (not that it means much, since all console Zeldas are of extremely high quality)

Oh, dear. Of course not.

Maybe I should have said "You think LoZ NES was better?". Although that still kinda implies that LoZ sucked.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. D:

Who is this guy that call himself "we"? That's so confusing, I thought he's talking about us.

Another Wii hate article comes to join the pile.  mario galaxy 2 one of 2 games worth owning a wii for, that's where I stopped reading. How have htye not repalced rare? All rare is doing now are fitness games for kinect.  Even if Nintendo made about 20 games with a meta score of over 95%, people will still make articles liek this one.

2 games only? u nintendo guys are abit over ur head, 2 games is nothing especially 2 get maxe in less than  a day.

and 199-250$ system

If you're 21 and under, you shouldn't even comment in this thread. You weren't alive when Nintendo was at it's best and so your experience is VERY limited on the subject.

There was a time when Nintendo CREATED Zelda,Mario and Metroid...not simply made sequels. If you were alive during this time, like I was, you'll totally understand the article.

Creating new IPs is very risky. No company in their right mind would waste money on a new IP when they have giant franchises to hold them up. It's not that the company doesn't want to or can't, it's that customers don't want new IP.

When was the last time you purchased a game that was completely new? I bet for many people, it's a rare event. For most people, they will always buy a new Mario or new Call of Duty over a completely new IP. This is because they TRUST those games. They know Mario games are fun.

Nintendo will not avoid creating new IP, but they will not do so every year and pour resources into this. They have given us things to chomp on, but we have taken very little notice.

They've created plenty of new IP for the expanded market, and while the expanded audience buys those games in droves, core gamers keep yammering on about how "Wii Sports is for Grandma". It was the same thing during the NES era. People were saying "Mario is for kids" (they still do).

In any case, Nintendo is creating new IP to expand the market and they will continue doing so.

Yet your probably the  same person who bought Uncharted 1  2,  and Infamous and will be getting part 2. Every single Crash, Jak, Sly, and Ratchet game. Sequels are the way of the world everyone does it. From Movies, books, and yes video games. it's amazing that you forgot that Nintendo made more sequels during the NES era then any other. 3 Super Mario Bros, 2 Zeldas,  3 Adventures of LOL, and 4 Donkey Kong games. Now all they do is make sequels! Really?

Oh let's not forget to mention all the 3rd party sequels made for the NES. So let's get real and honest here can we. People need to realize that back in the 80's Nintendo was gaming. That's why the NES seems like the greatest system of all time. It was you one and only stop for video games. Now there are 3 systems that cover what the NES did by it self. What does this have to do with Nintendo? Nothing it's not their fault the couldn't keep a monopoly over the gaming world.

Sequels have been here since the beginning, and Nintendo is still the same.
