Also, I never knew that one shot to the back from the ice beam is pretty much a kill shot for Samus. She really needs to get that obvious design flaw out of her suit!

*rolls eyes*

Ugh, there's just... too much silly stuff in this game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nintendo weren't famous for being realistic.

And anyway, wasn't Metroid affectively Alien: The game? Even Ridley is mentioned, FGS...

Internal logic is what we want, not realism

I like the OTT nature of the game, just as much as I did the more serious nature of the Prime series.

I think you just have to put these things into perspective; don't expect much logic in a franchise with such a convulted history.

Convoluted history doesn't excuse illogic. If you mean the continuity, then attempting to make a continuity is illogical. It's why neither The Spoony Experiment nor Atop the Fourth Wall give an official origin for Dr. Insano.

I'm getting as confused as the Nintendo timeline now...

If you mean those shows, google "The Spoony Experiment" and "Atop the Fourth Wall". They are web review shows, and part of "That Guy With the Glasses". Anyway, during a crossover, Spoony played a mad scientist on "Fourth Wall", named Dr. Insano. Just for laughs, they've come up with several possible origins for him in different videos, and they decided that none should be official, as that would make a mess.

Now Nintendo seems to have a vague timeline for Zelda, but nothing concrete to avoid too much confusion (for those that don't care to follow the timeline). This game is trying to do that, but make its own timeline, and that is part of the mess.

I think Nintendo shall just pull names of their games out of a hat for the timelines,

and thanks for the heads-up!

In a world where you have your boss and her top two lieutanents killed and your base destroyed, then all three come back in a matter of a few years, it's going to be hard to keep plot consistency. Metroid's timeline has been a little incredulous since Super, if only for that fact.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I just beat Other M on hard mode in under 5 hours. I wish there was more to do in the game.

Yeah.  I'm still on my first playthrough (over 8 hours so far).  Metroid games are mostly about figuring out where to go next and finding items.  I guess once you figure those out, the games are pretty short.  I remember beating Metroid 2 in well under an hour, with practice.  I think my first Super Metroid playthrough was about 30 hours before I eventually wore it down to about an hour and a half.  Try speed running it, I guess.

Except others are stating this seems to be short without having to figure it out.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I never knew such comments even existed! I'm currently on 7 hours, and am just about to fight Ridley. I don't ever believe that, like d21lewis said, length wasn't really too great in Metroid games, it was more about discovering where to go next...

END-GAME SPOILER, DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN THE GAME:

I think the funniest thing about Samus's reaction to Ridley is how differently Anthony reacts. Samus sees Ridley, freezes up, has to be saved, can't summon up her suit in time to save Anthony.

Anthony is falling to his death but is still clear-headed enough to freeze a lava monster and use it as a platform to survive certain death.

I think we know who the real hero of this story is

Khuutra, if you're arguing that Samus doesn't have PTSD, then that's a different argument and I'd like to hear your reason why.

However, if you are acknowledging her PTSD, that is an absolute bitch-slap in the face to anyone who suffers from the disorder. Your post wasn't funny at all. Maybe you should take time to learn about the disorder and be a little more forgiving to those who suffer from it.

ZING!

No, seriously you have a valid point, the condition is not to be joked about...

You've got to be kidding me..

The Samus in Other M may be consistent with PTSD, but 1) that is not consistent with the hero of seven other adventures who never once displays a trait like this and 2) just because a character is now depicted as having PTSD doesn't mean she *should* have been depicted that way. Especially with a player character this is a stupid idea, it may reinforce delusions of 'progressing game art' but people DO NOT want to play as a character who suddenly starts acting up beyond the player's control before a battle. Cry "offensive" all you like, but people would rather play the cool and collected character as Anthony was in that case who was able to use his ingenuity and quick thinking to escape almost certain death.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

You completely missed my points, congratulations. You're arguing on a side topic of whether or not it's a good idea to have the main character experience PTSD.

I was on a completely different path with my post and I was only sticking up for people in real life who suffer from this disease, and how Khuutra's post is completely demeaning the seriousness and impact of PTSD, like it's silly.

It's just really getting on my nerves because a lot of people recently have shown their lack of understanding of PTSD and are saying completely outlandish and hurtful words completely demeaning those who suffer from it.
