I have a few questions about the next generation handhelds, and I wondered if you could help me answer them :)

1) When the 3DS comes out, the DS should still be selling strong. Will VGC need another bar on the graph to represent it, or will we delete the DS graph and replace it with the 3DS one?

2) If/When  the PSP2 comes out, will we use a different graph, or will we delete the PSP graph and replace it?

3) If the PSP2 turns out to be a smartphone, will it still have a chart (could be unfair)?

The 3DS will need a whole new graph all together since it's a new generation all together. I hope they don't drop the DS graph though. I still want to see how much DS sells.

I don't think a PSP phone should compete with something thats all about gaming. I see it competing more with the iPhone. It shouldn't need it's own graph.

We should probably give them both their own graphs while continuing to run the DS and psp graphs until their sales become negligable

I hope they keep the ds and psp charts separate from the 3ds and psp2 charts.

They will get their own charts probably.

Just add 3DS to the current handheld chart since you could hardly place it in a chart on it's own, then when PSP2 comes along (which will probably be some time later), drop both DS and PSP from the main page.

If PSPhone is primarily a games device, then it should be on the main page. If it ends up having only a modest focus on games (though more than iphone presumably), then don't have it on the main page.

Does it also not depend on how well the PSP sells? They aren't going to keep the PSP there if Sony never actually gets around to replacing it!

i forget exactly how we handeled the transfer to the current generation of consoles but the ps2 stuck around in the charts for a while.  eventually ioi dropped is as it was no longer "significant" but it is sort of a subjective statement.  hell, you can still see ps2 numbers from last week even though it's not on the front page anymore. 

most likely you'll see DS and 3DS on the front page for a year-ish along with the psp.  i imagine the % market share calculation would be seperated though.
